[In progress] Stripes - Theatrical cut (including original European dubs)
#11
Good question...

Maybe someone made that decision without really thinking.

I think we will never know why they changed the font and the placing of the texts so noticeable...

Same digitally-recreated fonts found in the Extended cut. It makes so little sense! LOL

And now for the old US Theatrical DVD from 1998:

Seems the same as the Italian, just more pink. Is it the Italian one to be washed out or other releases to have messed up with the colors during transfer?

It is the same coloring as the mysterious italian video with the inserted italian title...

With the whole coloring questions, I would tend to think the european DVD is a bit washed out in the pink section.

It may be true that we (in Germany) got that extreme pinkish in theatres, as seen on LD. Maybe that's the reason we got komplete new texts...

I agree but I'm just waiting for the VHS tape to put a final word to what color is theatrical. That's for pure research, I'm not sure that I would be able to recreate the theatrical credits, in fact that's probably too hard to accomplish, but I'm aiming at least to obtain a theatrical cut with the European original dubs (Italian, French, German, Spanish) it's something that just doesn't exist on the market. This business of the original credits just got me very curious.

I uploaded the French audio track of the first 8 minutes of film, you can download it here

I have no idea if it's from the new dub from 2005 or the original one from 1981 but I don't know French, nor French dubbers, and I'm aware that films sometimes have two French versions (Canadian French and "French-French"), can anybody tell me what I have at hand? I trust that you don't need to know the film to identify or guess if the dub is from 1981 or 2005 and if it's Canadian or from France.
Thanks for your help. Vive la France!

It's definitely a dub made in France as I'm recognizing a lot of French actors and it's definitely from 1981 because the recording quality is too "imperfect" to be a 2005 digital recording.
Keep in mind that dubs made in Canada were ultra rare back in the days. 99% of the time, any French dubbed movie released before 1990 is done in France. Wink

Thanks, I was hoping you would pop up for this. I imagine there must be a more recent French dub too? The extended edition with 17 extra minutes was redubbed in 2005 both in Italy and Germany so I imagine France too. It's hard to look online for info when one doesn't know the language.

Out of curiousity, is there a list of titles that were dubbed in Canada?

Do we have any Spanish member to ask the same for the Spanish track?
