OK, it's confirmed by the user who sent me HP6 (babouin, thanks a lot!!!) that POTC4 is indeed pan & scan, as suspected...
EDIT: he added that some shots are more opened top and bottom; he suspect that there may be some open matte shots; I should add that, due to previous discovery in this thread, the eventual open matte would always be cropped, as the taller aspect ratio would be 1.89:1, hence a 1.78:1 shot would be necessarily cropped at one or both sides.
Now, IMHO it could be a good compromise to release it p&s after the first episodes open matte... don't you think?

Sure, and then I'll pan-and-scan the 3D version in a way that ensures the in-your-face effects don't get compromised along with the aspect ratio

Just a quick update: project is halted due to Harry Potter saga that takes all my time and hard disk space... meanwhile, OperatorIV (THANK YOU!) helped me as well with this one (after HP), recording "Stranger Tides" HDTV!
Now we have two captures of POTC 4; I strongly hope the logos are on different corners!
It is confirmed that is moderately open matte - better than pan&scan, I'd say!

Update: babouin has not just one broadcast... he has five!!!
So, adding the one from OperatorIV, we have SIX different sources!!!
Discarding the 720p, there are five that could be used to wipe out logos, and get a perfect logo-free version with minimal blocks and noise - if any would survive from such "massive" average operation!!!
Guys, please keep your HDTV recordings in a safe place until I'll finish HP, then it will be time for POTC!

Today I've watched the four films in the saga, a marathon... incredibly, I realized I've never watched the fourth one before, even if I have the BD since years, and was sure I watched it...

A bit OT, but I think I can be forgiven...
Watched Cutthroat Island; apart the fact I like it - despite it was a huge flop - but there are few similarities between it and the whole Pirates saga: first of all the monkey! Then the treasure on the blown out enemy ship which is tied to a rope; and other little things that I think have inspired the new saga.
And even if I watched it on laserdisc, it was pretty cool; sure, far from perfect, but it's still fashinating to see how good a 20+ old analog video format is, and, color wise, it's great - skies are NOT teal, faces are NOT orange... I like it!

Update: thanks to maksnew, now we have POTC5 in open matte! It's a Russian WEBdl, so we need another version to get rid of hardsub, and main title logo (the matted version *could* be used, maybe).
First post updated with new info.

Yea, seen the maksnew hybrid web / bluray version , would be nice to see it without all the Russian captions and title. Look forward to this one.

POTC 4 is currently available on the American Amazon through a STARZ subscription. Unfortunately, now I have no way to make a trial subscription to get a movie. If someone could help me with this, I would gladly deflate the film.
