[Discontinued for Now] The 35 Project (aka Project 35)

Mh. Just had another look. You're right. It seemed on one screenshot that the US has better detail than the JP, but the other ones show the opposite. And the colors are better indeed.

Is it just me or does the TOD regrade, with it's gold and cyan look, somewhat resemble the colour alterations made to the much maligned BD of Raiders??

Did the Raiders BD have much cyan? I do recall the gold.

Anyway what I'm seeing from all the prints/trailers of Temple are a lot less red then the BD but still having orange-ish, brown or yellow/golden skin tones with green and blue mixed in create a tip over into teal and cyan (but not crazy like people get upset about). I'm running a test right now that is a little more refined then those pics (removing gold from the mids to be more blue and green) so if you want you can look at the video when it's done.

If you look at the plane shot, you can see how the BD pushes the blue water towards cyan:

Based on the TOD trailer alone, it could be assumed (as some have claimed) that the Raiders BD was an honest, albeit extremely sloppy, attempt to match the look of an original print. Except that we have a Raiders 35mm print scan and that looks nothing like the BD. Weird. :\

Oh I agree on the plane shot but I thought you were talking the whole movie which I thought was not generally teal or cyan.

I would trust the Raiders 35mm print over the BD.

Here is the refined version were I removed the red, added the greens and blues but didn't add the more extreme golden-ish backgrounds but kept the golden faces.

It's kind of the same switch as Die Hard 3.

A lot of Blu releases that used existing HD masters from the DVD/LD days tended to be overly red.

Oh yeah we constantly discuss that here. Look at spoRv's Waterworld or my Phantoms regrade, etc.

I read on a Manga related thread some where on the Web, that the older video masters in Japan we're graded overly red to compensate problems with the TV technology at the time.

I assume that means CRTs? If so I can buy that.

A lot of the HD masters that are around are probably more then a decade old. Looking at amazon, the Indy movies came out on DVD in 2003 and it seems Temple and Crusade use the same masters as the DVDs so that means they are 14 to 15 years old. Well into the when most people still had CRTs.
