[No Longer Available] Tombstone Director's Cut HD + SD Upscaled (Quick Project)

Tombstone Director's Cut HD + SD Upscaled (Quick Project v1.0)

Project Info:

This project attempts to recreate the director's cut of Tombstone using the old DVD SD footage mixed with HD footage from the BD theatrical cut. The SD has a lot of halos/EE which were mitigated with dehaloing. It was also IVTC'd, deblocked and re-grained. Finally, it was color corrected to better match the HD footage.

While the SD will never look HD, hopefully this project will make the SD footage flow better with the HD. There is approximately 5 to 6 mins of upscaled footage.

The HD footage also had some dehaloing applied and had it's levels boosted as it was a bit dark.

Note: Synced to the Vista DVD. I removed about 7 frames from the HD footage to keep sync since those frames were missing on the DVD.  I also capped the LD and will include the one missing deleted scene as an extra.

Video:
The US BD HD footage dehaloed and slightly tweaked combined with the Vista DVD's SD footage. With the SD footage IVTC's, upscaled and processed to flow better.

Audio:
1. PCM 2.0 Dolby Surround w/ fill in from the DD 5.1 (from the Widscreen Laserdisc)
2. DTS 5.1 (from the Vista DVD)
3. DD 2.0 Commentary (from the Vista DVD)

Haven’t seen a release on disc unfortunately. Maybe a HD televised version out there?

It’s 12 mins the difference isn’t it?

Why not get the dvd directors cut and the blu and add the scenes into the blu and match the Color and do your voodoo with the dvd to make it pretty!

I was thinking about that. One big problem is the DC has a ton of EE when compared to the BD.

Yes but I don’t have a capture method yet. If anyone can suggest a simple inexpensive bit perfect method I’m game.
It also has an additional scene not in the DC for some strange reason.
The transfer is pretty solid and the sound feels better as I’m pretty sure this was never 5.1 theatrically.
This film practically cries out for a properly restored extended version. The DC doesn’t really do much and the original runtime was three hours.

Wasn't the one scene with Jason Priestly...I think I recall that was on the LD but not the DC DVD.

I remember the PCM being pretty great. Very dynamic compared to the later 5.1. I don't think this movie is a priority for Disney so maybe an HD + upscaled SD might be in order.
