[Released] The Keep (1983) [Fundamental Collection™ #022]

I got the Australian DVD from Via Vision Entertainment released in 2020,
does anyone have an idea how that compares to this "Fundamental Collection"?

Technically speaking, there shouldn't be any real difference given both releases stem from the same SD master. The only difference here is that the Fundamental Collection uses an HDTV upscale of the master and gives it a slight greenish tint.

So if you're watching the DVD instead of this, you're pretty much getting the same.

On the mentioning of upscales though, I do wonder, in the world of Smart AI upscales and whatnot, I wonder what'd happen if someone tried to use 35mm print scan frames as reference / training images and then upscaling the SD master.

I have the widescreen laserdisc and can do a new capture using a Pioneer HLD-X9 to HQ lossless capture card and bitperfect audio; I started work on my own touch up, stabilizing the opening credits, color-timing certain scenes, etc but didn't get far. I also have the alternate ending recorded off a VHS from a 1980s broadcast. P.S. I've seen an HDTV euro broadcast in 720p that looked better than the laserdisc. I may have a copy somewhere but it will be hard to find as its on an old HDD.

First and last time i saw this film before 20 years on some crappy TV rip. I was into early Michael Mann filmography. I didn't like the copy that i got, and my brain was splitted about the film that time. I would luve to see it again this days.

Oh Yeah! The Tangerine Dream soundtrack it's a kicker! Especially Parallel Worlds theme...

I spent the night at my best friend Derek's house, in the 80s. Friday night.. earlier we had skateboarded down to the local gas station mini-mart, got tons of junk food. Stayed up all night, watched several movies including Eric the Viking, Lost Boys, etc.
My friend fell asleep, but something came on TV that got my attention and kept me up.
It was the NBC broadcast of THE KEEP, and it had the alternate ending (which I didn't know at that time was even a different ending).
The dream-like atmosphere just hit right for that night.
I loved the music, I loved the soldiers running into the Keep w/ all the fog.
I didn't get to see the alt. ending again until the mid 2000s when a guy sent me it on VHS.
I joined many of the fan pages to discuss the movie and soundtrack.

I own at least 2 copies of the widescreen laserdisc.

Im positive sure that i had Fullscreeen (4:3) dig. copy on my old drive. Wich is now broken, but i still keep it. Im sure i can fix it, cause i had rare gems there. I was just PM the OP for links, i hope gonna get them.
