Not only does the home video distribution system ruin the colour timing of classics, they ruin the colour timing new releases.

Godzilla 2014 got a great big slap of green and its darkness and contrast put down to such levels, you could not see a dam thing on the picture.

Interstellar got a yellow tint.

Gravity got a green tint.

Tint everywhere!

Someone is doing this intentionally i swear, there is no reason for it other than some kind of revisionism trend sweeping through home video editors office's.

I'd be inclined to believe it's part of the encoding process.

Is Interstellar confirmed for yellow tint? I mean, is there any comparison around? I bought the BR but I haven't opened yet, I haven't watched it since the cinema.

Interstellar is suppose to be yellow. I saw the 70mm IMAX and a 35mm print and both had a strong yellow tint. But don't take my word for it. If you go on blu-ray.com and look at all the 70mm frames people posted, many have a yellow tint.

Godzilla was way way to dark on home video. Just an unpleasant experience that I don't remember in theaters.

No! Better yet, it's to do with the limited dynamic range of regular Blu-ray discs! That does seem to be the most logical explanation, if a little far-fetched. UHD has a higher dynamic range than BD, as well as increased colour depth. Techmoan alludes to this in this video:



It's a theory, but I'll have to see it first to believe it.

I doubt it, Godzilla's main trailer, color timing shows a much more saturated and accurate depiction of the film I saw in cinemas. and the sunshine blu ray I have has theatrical trailers that's color timing is completely different from the main movie, which is presented with a light green tint.

Even the (making of) videos for gravity have a much more saturated and accurate version of the film used for demonstration clips.

On the IMAX film cells distributed with limited edition version blu ray releases of interstellar. the film appears to have a very, very light yellow tint punctuated by strong colour saturation in other areas such as the faces of actors and environmental elements.

The film I watch in theatres is consistent with the film cells I have seen. for the most part.

Enjoyed this PDB! I'm a fan of KK650's regrade as well but this just gives me another option (as well as more audio choices!)
