To whom it may concern: I did an AAP-AR test few months ago, aligned manually (before the great auto-align plugin by random.next was released); I also included YAO hack, so it's possible to cover the added parts with black bars.

ATTENTION!
Now, I know there are someone who would be happy to see a whole film using the AAP-AR - usually, the same who can stand VAR - but I wonder, would it be the same if the AAP-AR (or open matte) will occur in a middle of a scene? download test clip to get YAO subtitles: http://www14.zippyshare.com/v/MezR6qNm/file.html Opinions are really appreciated!

I'm continuing to work, trying to produce a complete AAP-AR film; at the moment, Resident Evil: Afterlife is almost finished, but, as most part is just OAR, it can't be considered a "true" AAP-AR movie... I quit working on the VAR using frames from trailer, as it is a very time consuming task, and result, even if good technically, is pretty distracting - said by one who loves VAR and AAP-AR...
The Matrix was put apart for the moment, but I count to rework on it pretty soon. Meanwhile, I'm finishing to work on Resident Evil (the first film); result is quite interesting. Some random considerations on the whole AAP-AR:

spoRv, you could try Terminator 3. there are Blu Rays, Open Matte HDTVs and one 4:3 fullscreen DVD and they all seem to have identical masters. Had been playing with the idea myself, but I'm too lazy to do it lol.

It is into my endless "to do list"!

Just finished to watch a preliminary AAP-AR version of Resident Evil - using "only" two sources, but the OAR is 1.85:1, so...
Some (expected) tweaks and adjustments to do here and there, due to the fact main fullscreen source have logo, pop-ups, missing frames etc. to be fixed with a second (and eventually third source), and I lost some of them... but, apart this, it is A-MA-ZING! In few minutes I got used to the unusual aspect ratio, and not noticed for the rest of the film; it is very nice to watch a film quite well known, and discover new "pieces" due to more image on top and bottom (on average, I'd say at least 25/30% more!) - headroom was not useless, as in some other films; I guess here director filmed it taking in account the fullscreen aspect. If only I could watch it in a huge 4:3 display... I missed a 40' Pioneer plasma display for just 70€, why, oh why? Still, it looks great on a "mere" 55' 16:9 display, so I should live with it! |
