[In progress] True Lies - open matte, film regraded
(2020-05-28, 11:45 PM)nafroe Wrote: I also vaguely remember seeing that someone shared the full bitrate DTS track from the D-Theater which was synced to the 35mm scan

The one I mentionned has audio tracks labelled like this:

English dts HDMA 5.1 @ 1991 kbps 16-bit (Theatrical 35mm Dolby Stereo Digital [DVHS 2220098])
English dts HDMA 2.0 @ 1568 kbps 16-bit (Theatrical 35mm Dolby Stereo [DVHS 2220098]
English dts 5.1 @ 1510 kbps (D-Theater [DVHS 2220098]) Probably the core of the 1st one.

By all accounts a pre-order has appeared in Spain for an upcoming BD. Most probably a bootleg

Is it this Amazon rip?

Code:
True Lies 1994 1080p AMZN WEBRip DDP5 1 x264-ABM

its probably not a bootleg, most likely its licensed by Fox and Universal (Universal distributed the movie in Spain and the UK)

Like I said, the screenshot comparison is Maksnew's.  If he has issues with the repost, I'll remove them.  He posted 3 comparisons, but here is one for now.
Open Matte Webrip (I think from Starz), the ABM (I can't find the source mentioned) and DTheater.

I'm not sure what you're trying to show us, Doctor M. All I can see is that all share the same color timing and none are reliable since they all look like the old overly red and wrong DVD master.
As it turns out, Maksnew is the one who led me to the BLOODSUCKERZ redone DTheater version, which is the best I've seen so far. I'll get the ABM soon to compare.

I understand that ABM needs color timing fixes. But it also has a fine grain pattern and better detail with less compression artifacts.

I'll check on that tomorrow. But my hopes are not too high: when reading the characteristics, it's only about 10GB with 10 000 kbps for video. The BLOODSUCKERZ (see Maksnew screens above) is a DTheater remade from scratch, has much higher bitrate, has had work being done to it in reframing it to 2.39, was a bit sharpened, it seems, grain was added, has better contrast, plus a tad of color correction on the warmer side. It seems to be the winner to me. But, again, I'll check on ABM tomorrow. Maybe I'll change my mind and use it as basis for my future attempt at regrading.

I don't know a lot about D-Theater, just from the little research I've done. I do know it's max resolution is 1080i, which is usually little better than 720p, Mpeg2 with a max bitrate of 14Mbps.

I don't know the specifics of BLOODSUCKERZ release, I haven't seen that. Is it a direct copy of the data from the DVHS tape or has it already been re-encoded a second time?

That would compare poorly to ABM's 1080p 10Mbit/s H.264, even if it is also constant bitrate.
Still, it depends on what you see.
