[In progress] True Lies - open matte, film regraded
That does have one downside, Scythe42. Unless they used a lossless video codec, then the (groan) BLOODSUKERZ release has already been re-encoded once following the IVTC. A bit for bit copy of the source would be 1080i.

You asked if it has been encoded a second time compared to the source tape. And as I replied, it has not been encoded twice. It used the D-Theater tape as source. No uncessary encoding steps involved, no piggybacking for video on any previous release. Just encoded once: tape remuxed, decoded to uncompressed YUV, IVTCed, regraded, again exported to uncomressed YUV and finally encoded with x264 for "release". Hope that clears it up...

Compared to the uncompressed regrade, the enccode has as harmonic mean VMAF score of of 98.3461. I think we are clearly in transparent encode territory here... Big Grin

Anyway, just came by to say hi and clear up any questions in regards to what source the Spaniards used for their bootleg, which of course is a transcode of the before mentioned freely avaialble release. So don't buy the bootleg...

And that's great for the initial release. The desired changes were made and a final video created.

What I was (badly) trying to say, is the discussion here is to use THAT as a source for color correction and other changes (there was talk of a grain plate), that would be a 3rd encoding, which is less desirable.

I stand corrected!

I asked the guy who supplied the English audio tracks just to make sure what the source was as I did not create them myself (I am a video, not an audio guy). The DTS track is remuxed from the D-VHS tape. The other two are restored version of this track with corrected bit errors and - and that I misunderstood ran through an additional cleanup filter and the resulting tracks were labelled after the theatrical sound mixes of that time because they were saved in the same way to basically restore the audio as it once was on theatrical prints. Let's call some restorations or remix if you want. Anyway for the purists: they are not bitperfect rips!

I simply misunderstood the source as they did not came lossless encoded initially and I assumed these were taken from the tape as it has a PCM track on it and I know certain D-VHS players had various output options for sound. But the PCM is just 2.0 encoded surround, so he re-created the tracks properly, did some advanced cleanup and just labeld them what they should represent.

Has it not been used for mixing 2.0 (English dts HDMA 2.0 @ 1568 kbps 16-bit (Theatrical 35mm Dolby Stereo [DVHS 2220098])?

thoughts?
I couldn’t get acquainted with the sound of Laserdisc and DVD DTS ES matrix 6.1, but the Cinema DTS that was present on the 35mm scan had the best sound characteristics.
If anyone could share them)
