I'm not sure there is another hd open matte source available in the wild other than the 720p hdtv. Maybe like I said, someone out there might have a personal cap from a Eoropean hdtv source. In the UK it has only been shown in OAR on the hdtv channel's so I don't have a cap. I assume you will use the sd source for the logo otherwise will you. PM'ed you about the blu place.
Having a read around, I don't think the French disc is as good as the Hd-dvd even though it has a high bitrate and AVC, it also has burnt in French subs. You can't go wrong with the Hd-dvd as long as it has the burnt in location subs (US version) although it supposedly has a few more dirt specks compared to the Bluray as the Dnr pass removed a few of them but of course in the process removed detail and grain. The bluray also supposedly has color boosting in some scenes compared to the Hd-dvd.
On a separate note, you wouldn't happen to have the 720p Open Matte hdtv for Ferris Beuller would you, the one listed in the open matte thread, if so any chance you could do a hybrid with the bluray in the future.

Aw heck, and I thought this was one BD that was fine. Grrr. I do have the regular LD and like how the sound works as matrix surround and hope to one day get the DTS LD.

May I suggest to use the source with no hard subs, to get rid of them, so the foreign forced subs would be "alone", and not under the English hard subs?

Downloaded HDDVD. Yes, it is better than BD especially in static scenes.
Anyway I want to check french BD by myself.
Could someone share it (pm please) or post comparison screenshots?

I haven't got it random.next or seen it but all the reports on forums where people have asked suggest it is similar to the US bluray (I assume with the same Dnr) but with a slightly higher bitrate and burnt in French subs and to stick with the Hd-dvd.

Hardsubs could be removed with other source, this is not a problem.
X5gb, thanks for your support anyway.
As for logo. It is possible to hide it with DVD in some scenes but not in the every shot. Maybe some logo removal software could be used.

Nice, maybe the logo can be left if its beyond complete removal, how long will it be left for after you use the dvd to remove the majority. Not a fan of blurring software, so would prefer seeing the logo to that.
Had a look at the French myself but prefer the Hd-dvd still. Once you get it I'm sure you will agree.
