At the very least, it looks like the width focus matches, while the height adds a few extra lines to the top and bottom between the two.

I just checked and Netflix US does not have any of the Die Hard movies. Sorry. I'll keep an eye open for it. Have you considered trying to browse different countries' Netflix sites with a VPN? I used to do that several years ago to bypass region blocking, but I haven't done it in quite some time. Not sure if Netflix figured out a way to block that or not.

Thanks for checking 44rh1n. I've considered it but the VPNs that work cost more than the Netflix subscription! Plus I would have to run two PCs in order to capture anything.

Is there any website that would allow me to see if movie is available on Netflix and in which country?

Ok guys. Quick update. So I acquired a capture card to use with my HDMI splitter and Roku, and I've been able to capture ProRes 422 HQ, so the quality is really great. HOWEVER, I've run into a couple of snags.
1. The capture from my Roku 3 looks great, but the Roku 3 is only capable of outputting 30fps, which is lame. I'd like to get 23.976 so that there aren't any frame glitches and so we can sync it with the Blu-ray audio. 2. I tried my Roku Ultra instead, and it was able to output 24fps! Still not 23.976, which is lame, but maybe it's close enough? BUT there's a big problem: the colors are super dark when I capture from the Roku Ultra instead of the Roku 3. So my dilemma is: I can get a beautiful, color-accurate image out of the Roku 3, but it's 30fps. Or I can get a 24fps output from the Roku Ultra, but it looks WAY too dark. Any ideas about what to do? Do any of you know of a different streaming box that can output Netflix at 23.976fps AND doesn't have any color shifts? If you're interested, I uploaded a couple short sample clips in ProRes 422 HQ. One's from the 30fps capture, and one's from the 24fps capture. PM me if you'd like the link to those!

Hey, does this mean I could make Voltron BDs with this stuff?

I've actually got a 1080i recording of the Fellowship that I downloaded back in 2005 (that's what the timestamp says, anyway). There's no logo, and I've thrown away the nfo-file a long time ago, so I really don't know what the source is. It looks pretty similar to the Netflix screenshots, though.

I have the same HDTV rip (available on the Russian tracker) and I've noticed something odd when comparing it to the BD.
Only certain scenes seem to have had the heavy DNR applied. In fact the only ones I've picked out so far are the ones in the screencaps above. For the rest of the movie the BD has the same amount of visible grain and detail as the HDTV (if not more). Not sure why they would only DNR a couple of scenes but it's undeniably the case. |
