Blu-ray subtitle conversion tool (sub2bd)

However, I'm seeing quite a few error messages in BDsup2sub when I check the file, and it seems to want to change the color palette resulting in lower quality.

Cool, did you try any of the options to see if that clears it up? The only other thing I can think is that I'm having avs2bdnxml directly output the SUP file instead of doing another conversion from bdnxml to SUP. But if we see what the subtitles look like directly in Avisynth then it should prove if its a rendering or encoding issue.

Yes, I've tried all of the combinations of options, and they all produce errors in the Sup file.

I've opened the files in Subtitle Edit 3.36 and I'm seeing the same issues. I've tried importing to Lemony Pro 5, and it can't even see the subtitles that give errors in BDSup2Sub, and so it can only import about 2/3 of the individual subtitles. I don't have any other software that opens SUP files.

Here's an odd thing: testing the UHD resolution for the conversion, I find the subtitles turn out to be less defined than when choosing full HD resolution. They're already in a nice shade of white for HDR though, whereas in full HD they turn way too bright in HDR. So, my solution right now is to select the full HD resolution for the conversion for better looking character resolution, but before that, I change the color of my .ass to a shade of gray that will turn into a nice white when displayed in HDR.

So, instead of that line of style that I use for SDR: Style: Default,Arial,16,&H00FFFFFF,&H00000000,&H00000000,&H00000000,0,0,0,0,100,100,0,0,1,3,0,2,15,15,43,0
I use this one for HDR: Style: Default,Arial,16,&H00A0A0A0,&H00000000,&H00000000,&H00000000,0,0,0,0,100,100,0,0,1,0,3,2,15,15,43,0

@bronan, I seem to have an issue with 0.92.

I use sub2bd to convert .ass to .sup, mux them in videos with MkvToolnix so I can stream them to my TV via Plex DLNA server (not thru the client). I've used an old version of sub2bd with great results for some time now, and just recently updated it to 0.92.

But now some lines on the subs are glitching and in other cases partially missing (ie.: top lines on dialogue or before\N breaks are missing). Here's an example of the first case: https://imgur.com/a/OiYHdEe

Strangely, its only happening on brazilian-portuguese subtitles (two different ones), and its not related to accents or any special chars, since they're still being displayed correctly in the non-affected lines. Worthy of note is the fact that the issue is not present on PC playback, only via streaming.

Different attempts at converting change the affected lines but the subs come out all messed up the same. Tried converting in strict mode and optimized buffer to no avail. After also updating all software involved in muxing and streaming, the subs I've converted and muxed in the past version still work, so I suspect the problem lies in the latest version of sub2bd. Other than forgetting which was the previous version I was using before, I've since deleted it so I can't compare.

Any thoughts? Am I doing something wrong?

I can't see the image. Also please share your ASS file so I can inspect the encoding. It's most likely related to that.

It looks like its being processed if avs2bdnxml.exe is running. I suppose its possible its not detecting the length of the episode correctly? Anyhow, I can't debug without having the ass file.
