Blu-ray subtitle conversion tool (sub2bd)
#21
Thanks, I will try it out!

OK, I think I resolved the framerate issue with the latest update (0.2c). The first thing I did was check what the video was reporting the framerate as in AVS for 24000/1001 and confirmed it was 23.976025. The last decimal place was slightly different from the value I was using, but then I also noticed I was using a float to store it and losing the last decimal place of precision anyway haha. So I fixed both problems, and it should now be exactly the same as if you supplied the video clip like in the avs2bdnxml directions. Also confirmed avs2bdnxml always rounds to 2 places for the UI display, so don't worry about the 23.98. Anyway, hopefully that fixes your 1 frame shift Beber. For everyone else I'm sure it will be more than accurate enough Smile

Style: Default,Futura STD Medium,19,&H00FFFFFF,&H00000000,&H00000000,&H00000000,0,0,0,0,100,100,0,0,1,0,3,2,15,15,43,0

I also use an old version of Xvid4PSP to emulate the burning-in of the ASS, so that I can adjust the placement of some subtitles (also in notepad) to align them perfectly with other inscriptions, you know, like space and time information, left and right, as in Rogue One, for instance. I used to use that to actually burn my subs on my videos, but I no longer have to do that, thanks to EasySUP and now thanks to you.

The following are burnt-in examples, but now with your GUI, it would look pretty much the same, with variation in placements and fonts :

I finally ran into a situation I needed to use an SRT, so I did a quick ASS conversion with Subtitle Workshop as suggested and it was ready to rock. The default settings were kinda ugly but after a little tweaking I ended up with:

Style: Default,Tahoma,55,&H00FFFFFF,&H00FF0000,&H0000FF00,&H00000000,-1,0,0,0,100,100,0,0.00,1,0,3,2,30,30,65,1

So it's pretty painless, definitely seems like the best choice to just leave the tool ASS/SSA only and convert the SRT first.

I'm just curious how this is different than easysup. Is it just a simpler interface? Is it significantly faster? Is the output somehow different? I'd definitely welcome a faster way to make .sup files.

Certainly not faster, but it allows much more fonts, even more than just one inside the same file, and finer placements 'cause it's an *.ass-based file turned into a *.PGS/*.sup file. So it keeps as many fonts (nice for The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, Star Wars and such) and precise placements (nice for IMAX switching aspect ratio for instance) as you created them in your *.ass.

I've never had easysup make changes to what I've put in my *.ass file. Then again, I don't typically use more than 2 fonts per file.

I'd say if you don't have any problems with EasySUP then it probably won't be much different. The biggest thing it fixes is having multiple lines or descriptions on the screen at once (you'd know if this happens if you see lines flickering). The rendering is also a bit more accurate since it will use whatever fonts/sizes are defined in your .ass file.

Ah, ok. I haven't ever encoded anything with overlapping lines. That could be a huge improvement, especially for anime material.

Thanks for this, will have to give it a try soon, one of the problems I've had with easySUP is that it seemingly ignores the left/right margin settings in ASS and just uses its own safe area setting, so long subtitles wrap differently (and it's a PITA to insert manual line breaks all the time in ASS files).

Cool, please let me know how it works out for you. If you have the fonts referenced by the ASS installed on your system it should render almost identically to how they look in VLC or other players.
