[Idea] Robocop (1987) UAR version

It should fit, but this is where all the confusing differences in the mix come in. There is a YouTube video on the subject.

Well, the differences, even if are there, are minor, and mostly present in the latest blu-ray edition, so Criterion DVD *should* be less affected.

Also, I guess it's the only way to get the Italian and Spanish tracks in digital format; German had a PAL LD, but I think it will be difficult to find it out, so I'll take it as well.

The Criterion release had to reconstruct the audio for Murphy's death scene. My guess is that the subsequent releases mixed it differently for the 5.1 mix.

Well, there will be always the TC 5.1 track from Sony BD, so at least there is an alternative (for the English language).

Now, if it will be possible to get the Image LD, I'll gladly add it as well!

The problem with the DC is that large chunks of modified scenes have been badly remixed.
So whenever you get to Murphy's death, or Kinney's death, you would need to switch the DC off totally and segue on the TC, or the recut audio won't match.
I would personaly not include the DC track recut in this case, and settle for an image LD rip.
I'll look around to see who might have a copy. I would even settle buying one and sending it to whomever can rip it. There must be copies for cheap somewhere.

Moviefingerprints comparisons:

Sony BD untouched

UAR regraded as PAL French LD

UAR regraded as Criterion DVD

Before you ask, yes, there are clipped whites on UAR_as_LD, but it's a deliberate choice, to get the spirit of the LD, that may seem a telecine from a release print - you must live with it.

About Criterion grading: I think it could be more interesting to make another UAR using Criterion DVD and an early BD; result will be a 1.66:1 with most part of the image in HD thanks to BD.

EDIT: poll reopened, so vote your preferred color grading!

Like the french ld regrade very much. The Criterion is too desaturated, I don't remember that film looking like this except on the Criterion disc.

Agree! The French LD color and contrast have that "punch" that the Criterion totally lacks.

It's not easy to see the difference in the moviefingerprint single frames - they are so tiny - so I post here some comparisons; do note that often LD is greener than BD, but sometimes the contrary is true.

Top Sony BD, bottom UAR regraded as French LD:
