[Idea] Robocop (1987) UAR version

Personally, I think the French LD matched images look nice, but it looks very "video-y," whereas the Criterion matched images look more like film. Granted, the colors are a little dull, but couldn't that be fixed by boosting the saturation by (this is a rough estimate) 10-15%...??

Not agree about "video-y", but it's a subjective matter, so... we agree to disagree sometimes! The "Criterion-esque" could surely be boosted a bit, of course... but I'd like to leave that regrading for a possible future 1.66:1 version.

I also think the colors of the French LD are more pleasing but you have to admit the cold gray look of the Criterion is more fitting for Robocop and it's Detroit setting.
When I think of Robocop I don't think of beautiful, saturated colors.

Agree, and agree! Sure, Criterion colors, even if duller, are a perfect fit, but I still do like French LD colors!  I guess two versions should be made, to let anyone happy But, it seems nobody cares about a possible 1.66:1 HD version... why?

Oh, but I do care about a 1.66:1 AR. What I don't care about, like at all, is a UAR tetris version of that movie and of any movie for that matter. Make a constant 1.85:1 and/or 1.66:1 and I should be happy.

OK, I went a bit too far with "de-magenting" the regraded LD - indeed, it worked well, bat in few shots the final result was too green; so, I tweaked some settings, lowered a bit contrast and saturation, and green, and now it's even more faithful:

EDIT: by the way, with a YAO sub hack, you could watch it in full screen 1.33:1...

I don't care for YAO either. Not stable enough and not very compatible with foreign subs.

With SMPlayer, you got stable black bars, plus you can load another subtitle track on top of it! Fullscreen TV source has few missing frames around commercial breaks - most solved - plus two missing shots concerning drugs (first at Bob's home, second in the drug factory); more, there are blurred parts to cover drug, so when Bob is trying to get the bomb, the bottom part is all blurred... now, for the missing shots I've used BD "as is", and blurred frames is a problem to solve... should I use BD as well, or the French LD instead? Recording the Image DVD now so hopefully I’ll have the audio for it ready in a few hours!
