The audio on this release is 2.0 anyways but if you prefer I rip could link me to a suitable ripping program??! Apologies. For some reasons I interpreted that as a generic term, not the ACTUAL name.

Yes no capture, it's not a LD! DVDfab will also do the job.

"Proof of concept" of custom laserdisc-size covers:

Lossless version encoding finished yesterday; watched all, it has few frames to be fixed (basically, two explosions).
The others were during the "RoboCop birth", with his POV; I decided to replace the entire scene with FS, as the additional parts of the image on the side were quite small, and difference between FS and UAR (in the central part of the image, which uses BD) is almost null. The slight wobbling, basically present only in the "glitch" scene, and noticeable also when Murphy arrives at the hospital, is not so distracting IMHO, so I left it "as is". I also replaced the few shots missing from FS, which previously were replaced with BD, with Criterion DVD; even if overall quality is obviously lower, it offers more image on all sides; also, for some of them, I'm working on an UAR version blending it with FS PAL LD - it could be used for all these shots except one, that is missing also in the French LD due to side change; more info about eventual success will follow. Regrading tests seem to get very good result; revised settings are even better than the previous ones, conforming more to the French LD colors, apart the magenta removal. In some shots, LD colors are quite close to the Sony BD, in others are similar to 4K mastered BD, but often differ from both. An interesting version IMHO! Now, I must edit the DC to comply with the TC; has anyone did it before, and, if so, has the frame numbers of the cuts? It will save some time... What's about those two "LaserDisc edition" covers? I can use only one as front cover, or both for front/back.

You could try the moviecensorship page for Robocop to get all cuts.
Just to remind you, some parts are totally re-edited to you need to switch from the DC to the TC to reconstruct. If you plan on re-editing the DC sound: you would need to stay on the TC for the entire duration of the changed moments, or the mix will not fit as they remixed the scenes with added footage, sometimes very badly using loops to cover the gaps.

Yes, I'm aware of course about movie-censorship comparison. Still, I hope someone who worked on this *cough cough* has retained the frame numbers of modified shots...
Well, for the English track the plan is to stick to TC as much as possible, but what's about foreign tracks?

I wouldn't include a foreign track unless it's the pure, unalterated TC cut audio. As they botched the french, you don't know how much they may have botched the other languages. You would need someone to provide you LD rips, or if they exist, DVD rips of the TC audio.

I found that there was only one DVD version of the TC in Italian; I wonder if there are other TC DVD versions for German and Spanish (and French, too).
EDIT: the remastered BD Italian and Spanish added shots are not dubbed, while French and German are; so *I guess* they used, for the former ones, the old track and just patched in added shots; so *it could* be possible to edit them back... opinions? |
