I think it's worth a try.

I think the russian open matte disc uses the late 1991 open matte LD scan, so between the open matte LD SE and the open matte DVD TC you're pretty much set.

The telecine of T2 didn't change until they made the Extreme edition. I think?

The fullscreen Russian DVD and laserdisc have quite different colors, as you can see by the screenshots in the first post.

I'm pretty sure there were more than one telecine even in "ancient" times; for example, I just noted that the squeezed LD (thanks to MrBrown, you are great! Ok ) has a different framing in comparison, for example, to HD-DVD, with more image on top or bottom (depending on scenes).

That's why is so difficult to find out two versions (full screen and letterbox) with the same color grading!

The first Squeeze laserdisc was not approved by Cameron as the story goes, supposedly it was based on the Hi-Vision MUSE master. It was replaced by the second Squeeze which more or less looks the same as the earlier laserdiscs/Live DVD.

I do wonder sometimes about the various foreign language laserdiscs that were released (French, German etc.), whether they were all based on the 'Cameron approved' master or if maybe a 35mm print leaked out somewhere.

What do you think this guy used?

Notice the wobbling tho? I think that you may need to disable the forwardFrames thingy for this, resulting in very slow rendering.

I'm wondering if the Russian DVD might be from the XTreme edition master? Indeed it doesn't look like an early 90's master.
Colors may vary from one edition to another, and also framing, but it doesn't mean they don't come from the same telecine master.

So you have the original 91-94 scans masters, (1997 DVD), then the Ultimate scan master (1999 with remixed sound) then 2003 scan master. Russian was maybe made from 1999 but if it has the original soundmix, it's certainly just a DVD port of the 91 master.

If you have at hand, check the first German DVD release by MAWA. They also made their own Terminator 1 master, maybe they used a different terminator 2 master, also. At least they have a different color tuning. (maybe just botched, but still it differs from the other international DVD releases.)

FOUND!

PAL UK laserdisc: https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/18983/PLF...dgment-Day

It and the Russian FS DVD used the same master! Ok

Now, if there is a letterbox DVD (better if PAL) with same colors, I'll use it - because its higher resolution, and also because analog capture may introduce difference in colors and levels, even if the capture card is optimized quite well; if not, I'll color match the BD as UK LD, and see if, after that, the BD will match the FS DVD as well.

Or, if the D-Theater (or an early BD, but I guess it is not the case), or the WMV-9 [EDIT: WMV9 has the same colors as blu-ray] has the same colors, too, it could be used "as is" - it will be the perfect solution. The only problem is, are they available somewhere, after all these years?

So, I captured few minutes of this laserdisc, and used it as letterbox source along the Russian DVD, to get an UAR version; of course quality is limited, but colors and contrast blend quite well this time!

From top: Russian DVD, UL LD, UAR:

we have also a full open matte shot!

and this shot has a different color, not only in comparison to other versions, but also with other previous shots, which are the same as laserdisc; don't know why only this shot (so far, let's see if there will be others) was regraded!
