[Help] how to extract DTS-ES 6.1
#31
Your receiver also should indicate if the DTS-ES track is matrix or discrete version.

If it is the ES-discrete variant and nothing else will decode it, if your receiver or processor has pre-amp outs, set everything to unity and do a recording from those. Multi-channel audio capturing hardware will of course be required, but it is possible.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to mention that DTS 96/24 format does not allow for a discrete 6.1. When encoded as DTS 96/24, only the Matrix option is allowed for 6.1 content. When using 48/24 or 48/16, DTS-ES allows for a discrete surround Back channel.

Good to know schorman, thank you.

Otherwise, have you thought about using a hardware decoder, like PS4 or Xbox One (they can convert DTS streams to PCM, maybe the matrixed channels are dematrixed), and capture the audio in HDMI?
