Batman 1989 4K
#91
The Matrix had a great remaster on 4K UHD and a new remasted bluray with a great Atmos track. No changes needed, why can't do the same for this movie.

I used to have the VHS of the movie as a child, seeing the releases evovle over the years, I think this is the best that Batman 1989 has looked.

Yeah me too,.
Got every release since vhs (except, sadly, the LD)

But i can't judge the new 4k remaster as i don't have 4K equipment..
So i can only talk about the new remastered Bluray...and i'am quite disappointed..
Sure, for most of the time, the picture is great, but i'am having a hard time with the night scenes and all that teal...

but, from what i have read it's seems it's with the hdr to sdr conversion, that things went wrong...they didn't put much care into the bluray..
But the 4k version doesn't seem to look like that, so i'll have to wait till i can watch this properly in 4k...

So, I did a phase-reversed overlay of the TrueHD as well as the DVD DTS and at the point where I overlayed them, they cancel each other out pretty well, so I'm guessing they might actually be the same. Haven't yet done side-by-side listening tests tho. Also interesting, they drift apart over the runtime a bit, but seem to stay close enough to not be out of sync. And in some places in the beginning where they cancel each other out rather well, sometimes for a short moment the cancellation stops and then it goes on, kind of strange.

Yeah, a regraded of the remaster bluray of Batman with original soundtrack would be just perfect...(fingers crossed)

And same thing for Batman Returns (so much teal on the remaster bluray... Rolleyes )

very interesting!

it would confirm that from the Special edition dvd to the first bluray, the same soundtrack was use but with different encoding....and that's when it loosed a lot if dynamic..
So the releases prior to the 2005 dvd should have a better sound like the Ld and the 1997 dvd..
Do you have this one, to make a phase-reversed overlay of the TrueHD and the dolby digital 1997 dvd?

Here's what I have: The LD that was recently synced by bronan, the DVD DTS kindly given to me by weegee, the TrueHD track and the UHD Atmos track.

Mind you, that overlay technique isn't perfect because it's hard to do it at the exactly same sample (of which there are 48,000 per second), but it's good enough to get an idea usually.

thanks.
you almost have it all...
i don't have the Ld track, and didn't have time to rip the dts...(but if it is the same as the true hd,then i don't need to..)
and i still didn't receive the 1997 dvd, but i will check the audio on this one as soon as i'll be able too...

i guess ,even if i never had the chance to listen to it, the consensus is that the LD track is the best one..
and then it should be the 1997 dvd, if it's actually the same that the ld, but in 5.1 and lossy..
is it possible to compare a 5.1 and a 2.0 with the overlay technique?

No, I don't think that would work properly unless the fold-down technique was precisely known.
