Batman 1989 4K
Nice find Tom! I couldn't hear much of any difference on my desktop speakers, but that would definitely explain why. I will have to check it out on my main system.

No, sadly there is nothing else. Sad

Only this old commentary track by Burton.

wow, that's great!

nice work!

However I have yet to do an A/B side-by-side test to see if there's actually any perceivable difference; I'm guessing there isn't. Still might be the better choice for any projects that aim to edit the audio or upmix it, as it's arguably a more faithful "raw" source. Thoughts?

nice work too!

very interesting analysis!

thanks to you and Bronan, it seems we finally know what's yet the best track for this film...

even if the difference is not audible, it's another mystery solve!

Wow, that's awesome! Great Job!

It looks like you've found the definitive track for this film.

Wow thanks for comparing the LD tracks. The US LD is still may favorite but I had always figured the Japanese was the same master as was common practice at the time. The 1997 flipper DVD is the same mix in discrete so I'd argue both are important. Of course you'd have to use the 1.33 side as some idiot cut the Vicki mouth hair out of the letterboxed side. I can provide the flipper DVD audio if necessary.

The SE DVD had the tamed remix that was the first time things sounded different. The DTS there is the same as the Dolby 5.1 lossy just several db louder as are most DTS tracks. I never noticed much difference between the 2005 audio and the True HD and 640kbps DD on the BD disc. You'd have to do comparisons like the above to find and differences.

Which ones do we have collected so far? I have both DVDs on the shelf.

Nice feedback Captain...
It's by reading some of your posts on different boards that i have learned a lot of very interesting stuff on the Batman movies audio tracks...so thanks! Wink
while i'm at it , what do you think for Batman Returns, and Forever audio tracks?
Same as for 1989 Batman (Ld + 1997 dvd?) for better tracks than the bluray ?

So,little updated recap on the Batman 89 audiotracks (yes, i like to make lists..so what? Big Grin ):

2.0 from the JP LD (the best one)
2.0 from the US LD (2nd best)
5.1 Dolby digital from 1997 dvd (3rd best, same as the LD,but encode in 5.1 and lossy)
5.1 Dolby digital from 2005 SE dvd (tamed new mix )
5.1 Dts track from 2005 SE dvd (same as the Dts track, but louder)
5.1 Dolby True Hd from 2009 Bluray. (same mix as the SE DVD but lossless)
2.0 from Itunes  (pcm, surely from the same mix as the bluray)

and of course the already famous
Dolby Atmos from 2019 remastered bluray

i think that's all...(minus the vhs of course...)
Then we would need the 70mm and/or 35mm scan audio tracks....but i don't think they exist yet...do they?

I was planning to try to rip the audio from the 1997 dvd, but sadly still nothing in the mail.. Sad

Are you sure about iTunes being PCM? Afaik iTunes is always normal AC-3. Don't recall ever seeing a PCM audio track from iTunes.

euh...good question..
don't know much about itunes files.
The file is read as pcm 2.0, even if it's named "original 5.1 Mix".
i don't have it with me right now,but see page 5 of this thread:

i think that the source file was either AAC or Dolby Digital Plus, RivalScenes converted it to PCM from the looks of it. if you notice, the spectrogram only goes up to 15khz.

It is the Original mix, just a bit louder.

Indeed, seems to be a conversion from lossy, with no documentation of how the conversion was done either.

iTunes Movies

1.0 + 2.0 = AAC
3.0 - 5.1 = Dolby Digital
Atmos mixes = E-AC3
