I'm not claiming this to be the case, but from my playing around this could be entirely the result of the type of HDR->SDR conversion that was performed. How were these screenshots taken? To know whether there is a real black crush, we'd need an image of the raw HDR video. You know, those very flat looking screenshots.
from what I understand, that screenshot (which I took from bluray.com), is coming from the new BLuray, not the 4K bluray. So there is no HDR->SDR conversion here.

I see. My guess is that it's still a HDR->SDR conversion ultimately. For one, the colors on the remastered one don't look as good and fine-tuned as I imagine they could look if it was a dedicated grade, second I don't think they would invest money into two separate grades. Look at the SDR Batman Begins/Dark Knight remastered versions that are/were on iTunes, from what I can tell they are tonemapped versions of the HDR. I wasn't able to 100% replicate the results, but with Dr Dre's ColorMatch I got reasonably close (~98%) to see that it has to be the same master.

The remaster seems to look more filmlike, including colorwise. I've never seen it in 35mm, but I did see Returns in 35mm, and this looks consistent.

Interesting to note that Warner, with these remasters, is finally going the true 1.85:1 route instead of full frame 1.78:1 advertised as 1.85:1.

Warner does it all the time, they don't fully correct the HDR master for BD.
I wached some of Batman last night and it looks really good, but the sound is the worst.

Audio from the old Blu-ray doesn't an initial delay. I've already tested this with the UHD. Idk if any adjustment would be needed down the road. If not, The LD audio we have works perfectly as well
