Did this custom project attempt to fix the video as well or is it the standard Dragon Dynasty video?

It's at the correct speed (though it doesn't sync to my own rip, that Dragon Dinasty Blu was pal speeded up)

Okay, the japanese BD with cantonese 2.0 mono LPCM has the same bad video quality as the cantonese disc. I think everyone who can upscale a movie here could do a better job.

The Dragon Dynasty has PAL speedup, so the custom project fixed that and returned it to 23.976

I know jrodefeld is working on a project that fixes the speed of the Dragon Dynasty disc but also cleans up the video, there are some screenshots in the in progress thread that look really good but I don't know how far along with the project he is.

How does the Dragon Dynasty compare to the Kam & Ronson Blu-ray?

For starters, both are upscales. The DD is based on a 576i PAL master (prepared by German company Atlas International) and also has English titles, but is unfortunately frame blended from 25fps to 29.97i which makes it difficult to fix, as evidenced by the few here who used that source for their projects. The Kam & Ronson Blu-ray is based on a Fortune Star HD master which is also an obvious upscale and more beat up looking, but runs the correct 24fps rate and dosen't suffer any field blended nonsense.

I will add that in my experience in working on The Killer for a number of years that the 'Atlas' master is indeed HD. It does resolves more detail than 576i but not 1080 (I remember us having a conversation about this in another thread but Im sticking to my guns ) . It advertises it's self as 'Mastered in HD' on the EMS DVD release. This makes the DD Blu the highest resolution release available. As for audio the best by a long shot is the Scandinavian DVD mentioned in the various threads. Even though its compressed at Dolby 2.0 224kbps it blows any other out of the water. I think a remastered release with a fresh scan by Fortune Star will appear soon. Their certainly redoing all there back catalogue with many appearing on streaming services such as Amazon. There was a showing of The Killer recently at a film festival with John Woo in attendence, but no details on the print used. |
