Beetlejuice (1988) LD PCM synced to 4k
#1
Hey all! I've synced Beetlejuice's LD PCM audio to the 4k Blu-Ray. This is my first extensive edit as it drifted in spots but was otherwise not a headache to sync. Everything looks pretty tight. Special thanks to Bronan for capping and supplying the soundtrack, without him I wouldn't have been able to get this one done! Heart

PM for a link!

Don't think it sounds better than the 5.1 though.

The original Warner VC1 Blu has two 5.1 tracks, one is Tru-HD with 640kbs core and the other is 448kbs. In one of my times renting that older Blu, I recall the Tru-HD and 448kbs 5.1 tracks sounding completely different from each other. The Tru-HD track clearly had some separation and expanded ambiance going on in the Front L/R and Rear L/R channels, possibly some added/changed sounds in addition to prominent LFE. I think this mix was used on the Deluxe Edition DVD and sounded similar to the 7.1/Atmos mix on the UHD. The 448kbs track lacked base in the LFE channel and the rear surrounds were fed dual mono, but was overall louder and better balanced than the Tru-HD track. This track was probably discrete presentation of the 4.0 LRCS master mix and I think the very first R1 DVD release also contained this exact track too.

Interesting! I will do some poking around and try to find the other Blu-ray/DVD mixes for my upcoming Halloween watch. Always fantastic to have so many different options!

Anyone ever locate the supposed 4.0 LCRS ‘mix? Would love something more original to go with the 4K disc.

There's a music only 5.1 mix on that disc.
There is also another ac3 mix on there, this is what a review from blu-ray.com says:
Quote:The Dolby digital track at 640kbps has a truncated sound field in comparison to the lossless track. It sounds flat, not as dynamic, and muddy in comparison.

I normally don't trust that site when they say something sounds good, but when they say it sounds bad I find it more believable. I got rid of this one years back so I can't check it myself.
