These are so freakin beautiful, by the way, more than I expected, and do look like a labor of love, and I will measure up to your work in the future, you can be sure of that.

The thing I wanted to ask, I think that as I quickly skimmed through your HP1 last night, I did not notice any strugling on my system to play it, which is quite surprising, given that my own attempts to render out 4k HDR 4:4:4 10bit in the past, proved to be a real tall order to chew on playback...

Is there anything specific you did when handling this final encode? I could be wrong as I'm yet to sit down and see the whole thing, but it felt perfect last night.

I usually use StaxRip for a final NVENC output, tried with many a different bitrates, and in the end gave up and started doing finals at 4:2:0 chroma. Your briliant work, makes me want to go and revisit the whole idea, so if you have any pointers, I am interested, for sure?

Addendum: I'm about to try and produce a lossless 7.1 mix for the extended versions of these gems of yours. I'll see how it goes, but if you are interested, I can send them to you when done, and you can then decide on would you include them in your muxes. It's your baby after all...

Thank you, I'm happy you (and everyone else saying so) are enjoying it.

So all renders are done in Davinci Resolve, nothing too particular about the settings, also using NVENC. Maybe it's something about how the software handles it. So perhaps try encoding through Resolve. You can select everything there. Bit depth, chroma, and everything. However I did give up on 4:4:4 past HP1 due to most people experiencing issues with playback, and considering there was no real difference in quality that I could see I decided the much wider compatibility was the way to go.

You know what. If you do manage to pull off 7.1 for the extendeds I will gladly remux them in actually. Hit me up if you pull it off. Thank you.

Sounds nice! I wonder if we could make a multilanguage release?, maybe it's not easy to sync audios with Klexos extended versions of 1 and 2, rest of films doesn't have dubbings for extra scenes.

Yeah, I would imagine that would be the case Jaifai4K. Syncing the audios would not be that complicated given the available source, but it would require time. If you feel like it, you can try...

I'm definitely not going to be able to allocate that much time to address other languages as well, given that I am balancing doing English and Japanese for my own projects. I love Klexos' HP project so much as it resonates to how I would approach things, that I have decided to create 7.1s for extendeds. I would have done it either way, if I was to tackle the project. Luckily, this AMAZING thing exists... Actually, what I plan to do, starting from tonight, one by one movie would be:

- Produce lossess 7.1 mix for each movie, starting from FB1 and in chronological order
and
- Produce a lossless 7.4 binaural headphone mix for each, as binaural mixes are kinda passion of mine, and the way I watch stuff (I don't like neighbors listening to my entertainment, as much as I don't like hearing theirs)

I already have synced the theatrical versions with BD audios on my computer, I'll try for the extended ones, of course it requires time and patience, I wrote Klexos to ask him/her about PCM audios because I cannot 'extract' them. I'm not an expert and I have always felt annoyed about the black bars and not to shown the entire picture, so it is amazing to find such a great fan projects!

Amadian, both of your options would be nice. I'm looking forward to see the audios! Wink

OK, so prep work for FB1 done, and the next step is to edit and sync with Klexos' edit.

Prep work was mainly composed of:

Step 1. Remix Klexos' 5.1 mix into 7.1 mix to create 8 discrete channels (I was debating with myself should I do this or just use deleted scenes from BD as a source for audio, but I decided on this, as I want to stay as true as possible to the choices Klexos made when mixing 5.1. The advantage of using deleted scenes as the source would have meant that I can much better control bleeding of vocals into surround channels, given that deleted scenes have only stereo and it's pain in the b... to turn stereo into 5.1 and make it sound good, let alone 7.1. I'm not sure how Klexos remixed deleted scenes into 5.1, as there is some vocals bleeding into back channels, but I can live with it, for the price of keeping his choices intact. This was a labor of love, and I intend to keep it as such. I just want to give him a 7.1 track, as I would imagine he would produce, if that option was available to him, there are many things that come into play when extending and making a fanedit, from making sure transitions are OK, to even reaching to the original isolated score or coming up with other custom sounds, to make up for lack of score and effects in deleted scenes, that are usually bare bones and contain only vocals. Klexos had to think of all this and I want to keep that intact)

Step 2. Normalise each of the 8 discrete channels from Klexos' now 7.1 mix, to match the perceived loudness of each of the 8 channels in the original theatrical 7.1 mix, in accordance to ITU-R BS.1770-3 standard. This would give me the same amount of energy across the surround field and make the extended and theatrical tracks comparable. I usually like to produce mixes that are pretty busy in the back channels but the goal here is to keep it almost identical to theatrical mix, that is already pretty darn busy in the back, as it is...

So now comes the boring part, reversed engineering to figure out cuts/transitions in extended, and splicing/syncing theatrical 7.1 (which is going to be everything but deleted scenes parts) into Klexos' 7.1 ( where deleted scenes parts of audio will be kept along with the choices made during extending).

I'm off to stuff my face with cake now, need some carbs for the brain and energy to proceed...

Edit: Actually, the boring step proved to be much easier than I expected. 2 deleted scenes in, and God willing, expect to be done tomorrow with final 7.1 for FB1

I have a question for everybody, are you all able to play HP1 extended smoothly? Yesterday I open file with my nVidia Shield pro and had a lot of lag in spite of being a good piece of hardware...

The HP1 is encoded as YUV 4:4:4 chroma, Jaifai4K. That would sweat most of the hardware. Try converting the file in YUV 4:2:0, which is the standard format, where you will be handling half of colour resoultion (not to be mistaken with the image resolution, not the same), and you will have no issues.

Just make sure that when you are encoding you change settings in your encoder not to use BT709, and make sure to keep BT2020 colour space, so you do not loose HDR.

Lol why are you telling them to absolutely kill the color to 4:2:0 8-bit (which jacks the HDR and WCG btw), then, in the next sentence tell them to make sure to keep BT2020 color space? That won't be helpful. They need to do at least 4:2:2 10-bit (h265/HEVC) to preserve HDR and WCG, and they certainly do NOT need to lose half (or more) of color resolution! Smile

P.S. Please don't "normalize" the audio, that doesn't do anything other than set peak limiting, its not RMS or "average loudness", you need an intelligent dynamics limiter-compressor, preferably multi-band, to get the overall loudness and levels to match. Do it by both eye and listen, and check the scopes.

And I would not use NVENC to encode, its crap, its for live and streaming stuff.
I understand if the regular H264/265 are wayyyyy too slow, it could end up taking days to encode a movie.

Other than that, sounds like you are doing a massive work, and much appreciated, thank you!

Plays fine here, I'm on an Nvidia 3060 12gb,
Processor: 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-13600K  3.50 GHz
Installed RAM: 64.0 GB (63.7 GB usable)
external USB drive, kinda slow actually
played w/ MPC and MadVR enabled
