Hey friend, I think you got it wrong there Bilbofett. ITU-R BS.1770-3 would be an average loudness, not setting the peak limiting, God forbid. Doing it by ear? For almost 3h project...? While doing life at the same time...? Good, Lord!
I'm not sure why you think I recommended 8-bit 4:2:0, I guess I should have specifically mentioned 10-bit, I made that comment in the middle of a work day, thinking of a number of other things at the same time, so things that go without saying to me, I did not mention. At some point, I would rely on individual's ability to research before committing to encode, instead of following my words blindly, I will not be able to include everything they need to know, expecting so would be silly... I usually work in RGB and then 4:4:4 in Rec. 2100 PQ colour space (yes, with scopes), but the final encodes are done in 4:2:0 10bit BT.2020 colour primaries. Even commercial 4K Blu-rays are not 4:2:2 chroma and you do not have to do final encodes like that to preserve HDR, 4:2:0 10-bit is just fine. Now, before finals, to preserve as much quality as one can, I prefer to work with 4:4:4, even that is overkill for something that in the end we are doing for fun, after all...
I use NVENC usually, as I don't have too much time to wait for x265 to encode. That life thing and responsibility, again, staying in the way of my OCD to make things perfect... At sufficiently high bitrates I found it just fine for what I need, of course, each of us have their own preference, which is perfectly fine. I just find it progressively harder to give a damn about being perfect beyond what my eyes can perceive, in the context of what life is throwing at us on a daily basis.
Addendum: The 7.1 mix for FB1 is done. Klexos and I agreed, to send all to him, when all are done, which might take a while, given how time consuming these are, but we will get there...
