Indiana Jones UHD Collection
You've got to realise that scanning the negatives might have the changes baked into them.

For example, let's say the O neg credits don't have the actual credits. They are another negative that needs to be scanned and recomped digitally. Presto, any dirt in the original credits will be gone.

Now, imagine the O neg have the original plates in some VFX scenes, and that each additional plate shot is separate.

Same thing, you recomp them, and if something is obvious, you erase/adjust it.

All this is baked into the O neg remaster.

The final official releases with zero changes are the LDs and I think the final letterbox 1999 VHS trilogy box.

What I'd like to do is fix the UHDs by replacing all the redone effects shots with print sourced shots and then sync the DVD 5.1, any original audio tracks we've found plus fun ones like the letterbox Raiders LD audio. This is way beyond my technical abilities but it's how I would do it.

Knew I liked you.
The people that fawn over this crap and then in the same breath say the Star Wars SEs are childhood killers.
They are the same thing.

Re. The Last Crusade.

I think I made a calculation error when resyncing the missing frame.

I put the audio forward 24ms instead of 42ms so it's a fraction short.

I doubt anyone will notice but felt I should fess up.

Just my 2 cents.
Before the release of the new 4k editions I was hoping for two things:That the compositing shots in Temple would get some love and that the new grade of Crystal Skull would have a more true to life tone.
In my oppinion none of the new effects take away from the movies. Some of the effects shots in Temple drew me out of the movie before, but now the effects no longer draw attention to themselves (like in the raft scene down the mountain). I think retaining the original compositions would stick out like a sore thumb, making it harder to get lost in the movie.

Comparing "invisible" changes like these to the star wars changes is just blasfemi. These changes don't intent to change the vision of the movie, but rather to make the movies look like they have always felt.

I get that they are not purist editions, but to me the changes only improve the presentation. I did not notice a single of the cg-changes mentioned in this thread while I watched the movies.

The CGI in Crystal Skull is also a lot less distracting now. The new grade makes everything feel more real. Even a lot of the practical effects and sets felt fake with the old grade and bloom.

(Also, I think the new CGI staff at the opening of the Well of Souls discussed earlier was a cover up because the original somehow disappeared in the compositing of the foreground and background elements. It probably could have been done smoother, but then again I didn't notice when I watched the film.)

I like the CG additions in this, but dislike the CG additions in Star Wars then?

I'm not overly bothered by the recomposited effects in this. I'm not overly bothered by the recomposited effects in SW.

But pointless added scenes and entirely new CGI additions to the movie? That's a different story.

So I kinda got lost here. I was certain I had 5.1 sync of all the original 3 films from the NTSC DVDs as they are, according to what I read, the 70mm mixes, but they are not on my hard drive.

Did we ever get syncs of them? I was sure I had them.

Yes exactly. It's not about whether or not you like the differences or not. The intentions behind them are entirely different. Adding or removing scenes or adding new elements to the scenes alters the presentation the same way as a director's cut or similar, meaning the changes are striving towards something different than the original release. Compare this to the changes in Indy; you are not meant to notice the differences, they only try to enhance what is already there.

You can of course still disagree with or dislike the changes, but comparing digital cleanup of effects shots to say the shotguns to walkie-talkies change in ET or adding windows to Cloud City in Empire Strikes Back seems unreasonable to me.

Differentiating between the two types of changes doesn't stop anyone from disliking either.  Wink
The same can be said about DNR, regrading or scratch removal from film.

It wouldn't be an issue if there was an option on the disc to watch with original effects or with new digital ones. Wouldn't even take up much more space on the disc if they use seamless branching.
