You see the odd little anecdote about a Director not being aware of a foreign 4K release but in those cases the DoP has usually been involved
I've heard this come up, but who knows? Recently, Soderbergh expressed surprise over Kino's new 4K release of Out of Sight. Edgar Wright seemed somewhat annoyed Universal released his Cornetto trilogy on 4K without asking him. It doesn't seem the Coens nor Roger Deakins approved the new Big Lebowski 4K. All these instances are actually Universal titles, which also owns Miami Vice. But Mann has a reputation for being a bit hands on so I imagine a new transfer should've gone past him. But then again, wasn't Miami Vice mostly shot on HD video? Universal has usually opted to upscale their films that we're finished digitally.

That is for new works that rule, unless it's contracted (Cameron) or they reach out and let them ruin it (Mann, a lot)

I think it applies to any new scans/masters created after the rule change, I think the only exception is if the Director/DoP are no longer alive

Spider-Man: No Way Home 2021 Available in IMAX version on SONY Bravia but alas, the way to get movies is not available now and there is not one IMAX version for this movie on the net, even in SD. Perhaps WOWOW can surprise us)

It would be amazing but i think it will be the case of Dune or NTTD...
They do not want the IMAX version out of their scope.

There are still people in the know and can get Bravia streams but alas don't have accounts themselves and would need to be supplied with someone's account details to entail this, which is unlikely to happen due to the security issues this would involve.

May I again ask what are the costs/tech needed to cap and distribute 4k from the channel? I've got about 10 days to prep for Miami Vice in 4k
