I'm simply using the waveforms to see to what extent the levels have been altered compared to the theatrical mixes. I do listen to the mixes but I don't have expert ears (or even particularly good ordinary ears!) so that doesn't tell me much more than the waveforms do.
If Audition isn't presenting this information accurately then that's news to me. I would certainly welcome any guidance as to how to get "accurate" waveforms.
I hope I haven't misrepresented the scope of what I'm doing here. This was just something I started doing for my own personal interest when researching different mixes as so much information online conflicts. I share it for what it's worth in case others are also interested. But I'm certainly not intending this to be the final word in whether one mix sounds better than another.
