Yeah still slowly working on it. Been busy with other things
I made a 1080p SDR copy from the UHD BD and checked the SDR conversion versus the SDR copy on iTunes to make sure the levels are right. (I also added grain to match the levels of the Arrow as the UHD looks slightly DNR’d). That took a bit of time to do but I did so as to have an 1080p copy on the timeline to sync. It’s just easier then a 4K copy. Plus I want to use this as my watching version. I’ll make the audio available separate from it of course.
As X5 indicated I checked the 4.1s waveforms and spectral and all three (Shout, Arrow and Turbine) are the same. I didn’t listen to them for indications of noise reduction as they looked so close to make me believe they are sourced from the same place.
In fact all the soundtracks on the Arrow and Turbine are the same, that includes the 2.0 and 5.1. So given the Turbine has better (lip) sync, I’m only using those and abandoning the Arrows. It still a mystery to me as to why the Shout’s 2.0 is different. It appears it 5.1 is the same as the others but it’s 2.0 is different. Again it looks similar to the widescreen/letterbox laserdisc with the correct music while the Arrow/Turbine look like the remixed signature laserdisc.
I still need to check the DTS MA 5.1 from the original Universal BD and the EAC-3 from the HD-DVD. The two DVD’s 5.1 are super similar with the non anamorphic a hair better.
I’m visually syncing the Turbine 2.0 in PCM to the 1080p copy to account for the changes. The current plan is to waveform sync the WS LD, Sig LD and Shout to that. I notice that there is drift between the Shout and the Turbine so the is something there.
After that it’s the discrete mixes and commentary.
