Need to buy the Eagle 4k and compare as it is meant to have the original mix

That’s interesting. I know it supposedly has a better encode, but didn’t know about the sound mix.

Is that original stereo or the 70mm mix in 5.1?

I've got the Italian release from Eagle, English track is 5.1, I imagine it is the same track that Eagle released everywhere else. I can look into it if you want, I haven't opened it yet
AKA thxita on OriginalTrilogy
I preserve movies as they first appeared in Italy.

Yeah, all Blu-ray releases have had 5.1 audio, all basically the same mix as far as I know. The exception is the Lionsgate/Studio Canal 4K, which only has an Atmos remix (with a noticeable lack of bass and one obvious missing sound effect). The Eagle 4K disc ditched the Atmos in favor of the previous 5.1 track, which is definitely superior. But it is only "original" in that it is not the Atmos.

No Blu-rays have had the original theatrical 2.0 mix. I think the last release to have a 2.0 track was the 2001 special edition DVD.

Back to the LDs: I think the JP track sounds pretty good, but perhaps a bit "tinny." Would be interesting to hear if the US THX one is much different.

Sorry didn't mean original stereo, I meant original 5.1 and with Eagle getting the only disc for Apocalypse Now with original audio out the door I was thinking it might be the 70mm

Does AN have the original (or at least the restored version from the 90's) 5.1 or the 5.1 from the original blu-ray? I assumed it was the blu-ray mix, but if it's a lossless port of the restoration mix then it might be worth the import costs.

The Eagle 4k has the original mix in 5.1
