A Theatrical Stereo Mix of the Extended Cut of THE BLUES BROTHERS (1980)?
#1
To this day, there has never been (and perhaps never will be) an official version of the Extended cut of John Landis's THE BLUES BROTHERS in its original stereo format. Having just the 5.1 / 7.1 mixes is great and all, but those edited fake sound effects can be pretty annoying and distinctly obvious to hear, coupled with the general-but-way-too-clean audio. The only way to enjoy this classic "filthy mouths & bad attitude" in all its original magnetic and vibrating glory is to watch the Theatrical version from the:
  • 1998 Collector's Edition LaserDisc / VHS / DVD
  • 2005 25th Anniversary DVD

There's also the German Turbine BD that happens to include both the Extended and Theatrical version's original stereo. Only in Germany, not in America.

As a small commemoration of the film's selection for preservation in the Library of Congress back in 2020, I thought it'd be really to edit & create a Theatrical-based Stereo mix of the Extended cut! Unfortunately, I'm not an expert at editing & mastering such extensive audio for movies unlike others users here and there, so I'm hoping someone surprises me with their attempts to create this Original Extended Stereo Audio Mix of The Blues Brothers (1980)!

"the German Turbine BD that happens to include both the Extended and Theatrical version's original stereo. Only in Germany, not in America", You mean only in german, not english?

If both tracks are featured in stereo english, they it's only a matter of syncing them to the HD versions.

I think that's a miswriting.
The German has the extended in its extended remix, and the theatrical with the theatrical mix, not an extended with the theatrical mix.
The German Turbine BD has the following audio options on the extended:
German (Dolby Atmos / TrueHD 7.1, DTS-HD MA 5.1), English (DTS-HD MA 5.1)
So no theatrical mix in that.

Maybe the BDs in USA did not contain the theatrical mix on the theatrical BD versions.. Or something like that

I can imagine how much time and effort it would take to painstakingly amplify / denoise / enhance the Extended version's audio to replicate the sounds & hiss of its Theatrical counterpart (as well as "removing" all those sweetened sound effects)

Consider this my little commemorative challenge to any fans within the audio restoration community! Big Grin
