Is it possible a SDDS track was made for the original theatrical showing of the director's cut but never used?

I can read it on the poster; however, did not find a trace on the theatrical version end credits, only Dolby Stereo.

That's strange. I could've sworn both logos were on the Sony TC.

The SDDS logo is on the end credits of the LaserDisc (theatrical cut). Could trust this even older source

Also having SDDS does not mean 8-channel mix. The majority would have been SDDS-6 (5.1).

Apparently there were around 2000 movies with SDDS in theatres and here is the list with 8-channel mixes - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_8_...SDDS_films

Leon The Professional International Cut



Leon Version Integrale had a French cinema release through Gaumont in 96ish and that was Dolby Stereo mix (posters confirm this)
The changes in audio and credits are not unexpected.

Actually, 5 slightly different versions.

The Professional (US and parts of Latin America, Columbia)
Leon (French dubbed 1994 theatrical, Gaumont)
Leon (International version of The Professional, with French "Leon" title card, Gaumont/Buena Vista International)
Leon Version Integrale (1996 French dubbed extended cut, Gaumont)
Leon The Professional Directors Cut ("Leon" Version Integrale with English credits, most video releases).

Mine is from Sony UHD of the TC (yes, I took the cap myself).
That's the US theatrical version.

Yours will be the European TC from Buena Vista, which didn't have SDDS, but did have Dolby Stereo Digital.

Both are correct for their respective releases (except that the BV only used the standard Dolby Stereo logo on screen).

According to a reply I received on another forum:

Almost all prints were SR only.  There were a very few handful of SDDS struck, and I mean a FEW.

Of course a Sony release on UHD must have no problems to use it!

But about it being an SDDS-8 release, I don't think so; I bet it is only a 5.1 version.
