I've just capped the JPN and having reviewed it there is a lot of blue, obviously the night scenes but also the hospital/basement and the warehouse. Overall it is dark. I'm also pretty certain it's the same print as the Fox Lorber DVD, although that was mastered with raised black levels. Adjusting the DVD's level gets it pretty much in the ballpark of the LD.

Found my Dragon Dynasty and Mei Ah DVDs. The Mei Ah is similar in color timing to the French DVD with lots of blues.

Anyway with the soundtracks from those DVDs, this is what I have for audio so far:

1. PCM 2.0 Cantonese Mono (from the Criterion LD)
2. Cantonese Mono (from the Criterion DVD)
3. English Dub (from the Criterion DVD)
4. Cantonese Mono (from the Winstar DVD)
5. Cantonese Mono (from the Mei Ah DVD)
6. Cantonese Mono (from the Dragon Dynasty DVD)
7. Commentary (from the Criterion DVD)
8. Commentary (from the Winstar DVD)

More then likely going to visually sync all the soundtracks and to do so going to convert them to PCM and then DTS-HD MA to save space.

Still can't find my DD BD but maybe it doesn't matter, should I add a 5.1?

Wouldn't hurt to have, but tbh I'd never choose to listen to it when the OG audio is an option.

Do you go for bonus content, like the Taiwanese "VHS quality" extended version?
If I had known that you just miss your DD BD, I would have packed that in my box to take to the city I work at to send you what you are missing from that.
I think I even had a rip of the PS3 video that was on the Collectors Stranglehold game release.

PDB, I will upload the UK Tartan and JP Pioneer LDs very soon.
I also have a UK Tartan DVD which claims to be from a low-con print, it may be the same master as the French DVD but I have never seen the French DVD so can't confirm

Very nice, PDB.
Would (should?) the DD BD add much of note over the equivalent DVD?

I have the same opinion and the original mono soundtracks are the priority but I always try to include a remix for those who like that sort of thing. Also kind of create an "audio history" for a movie. Allows people to listen to every permutation of the soundtracks. Or at least every permutation I have access to...

I was thinking of pulling a Cantonese DD 5.1 from the DD DVD or the Mei AH DVD and putting it on here but not sure yet. English dub being there is as a sort "why the hell not" but I could easily dump that.

No worries MrBrown about the DD BD. I was just trying to mine everything I have access to. I think I have most of the Cantonese mono tracks around on disc (sans LDs). I need to see if the original French DVD's mono is worth including also. I'm loathe to do that since I have to do the speed and pitch correction.

I'm not going to do bonus content, because without menus it seems to be a waste of time to include such content. I am curious as to the color timing of the Taiwanese EE version. I use to have a copy of that and seemed to have misplaced it also. Its probably in whatever hole the DD BD is it.

Very cool, thanks zoidberg. I'll take any materials you are willing to offer. Right now I'm still grading so there is no rush. I'm just trying to physically and mentally figure out what I have and what I might need concerning audio.

Also no rush. What I think I'm going to do is finish up the grading, which still has a while to go and send out a preview/review for people to watch and see if it is ok. I've been busy lately also so I get it. It has slowed down my projects significantly.

I doubt it. It was more the fact I bought that BD a long time ago and seemingly didn't rip it and now can't find the original disc. I assume (and you know what happens when you assume) that any mono track on the BD is the same as on the DVD and not lossless or modified.

I have some more DVD releases of (INSERT ACCORDING MOVIE TITLE HERE) movie.
I dont think any of these are interesting, but after scanbox (dansk/suomi/norsk) hat a different mastering for.. uhm... one of the other John Wooo Masterpieces, I just mention: I have the Sanbox DVD of Hard Boiled. and two UK DVD releases. And two german DVD releases...
