As for T2 ... The 4K release has some nice details in it. But the bloody DNR kills the enjoyment

When someone on FB criticise the new remasters, people says "Cameron doesn't have anything to prove, his remasters are best, you suck" disregarding all the arguments, it's crazy. Those people think through IA.
Regarding T2, what's really sad is that they went back to an original element, and destroyed it with IA. I don't think they scanned the O neg, though they released some pictures with all the frame. As the highlights are exactly the same in the old 2003 version and the 2017, I think they just rescanned maybe the same IP they had then back in 2003 (listed in the booklet as the source). I think the O neg was lost years ago when Carolco went bust. Even worse, I'm wondering if they just had lost the IP and used the digital scans from 2003. That would explain the heavy post-processing to make it up to today's tech.

From the discussion here:
https://fanrestore.com/thread-4865-post-...l#pid89034 I finished the video regrade of the SE Web-DL to the DCP via pics I took during the presentation. It took a lot longer to accomplish because I kept tweaking the grade and the (many) encodes kept failing for various reasons. Now, I need to add the PCM from the LD and the DVD's tracks. So maybe: 1. PCM 2.0 Dolby Surround (from the OAR SE LD) 2. Dolby Digital 2.0 (from the OAR DVD) 3. Dolby Digital 5.1 (from the OAR DVD) 4. DD+ 5.1 Atmos (from the Web-DL) 5. FLAC 5.1 (upmix the OAR SE LD with LFE) Thanks given by: Hitcher , alexpeden2000 , stwd4nder2 , maksnew , applesandrice , BDgeek , alleycat , SwatDB , The Aluminum Falcon

Have to confess I've never actually seen the special edition, only the theatrical - cannot wait to finally check it out!

So no surprise, the reviews for the UHDs are filtering out and they are the same AI upscaled master as Webs.
Still hoping The Abyss BD is the normal non-AI upscaled 1080p master. |
