Streets of Fire (Project CRT #8 v1.0)

Part of the Project CRT, for more background read here:
https://fanrestore.com/thread-3228

To quickly recap, many late 90's/early 2000s HD, DVD and even LD masters have a significant red/magenta push on modern flat panels. It is assumed that this is caused by them being mastered on older CRT monitors which had a green and blue push. This project attempts to fix many of those old masters by making them look how the color technician would see them on a CRT master monitor. Not necessarily more theatrically accurate but hopefully closer to what the colorist wanted and hopefully more pleasing to the eye.

This is the Shout copy of SoF corrected to look how it does on my Sony BVM monitor.

Early Comparison: Original/CRT

The video was further refined using pictures The Aluminum Falcon took at a 35mm presentation. Particularly lower the green slightly and raising the yellow slightly. Additionally, I fixed some compression artifacts and other junk from the Shout BD

The audio has the 2.0, 4.1 and 5.1 from the 2-disc set. I'm syncing the PCM 2.0 from the US WS LD and the P&S Japanese LD from BDgeek. I have the DD 2.0 from the US DVD on its way.

Video:
The Shout BD of SoF color corrected on a CRT mastering monitor and further refined to some 35mm shots.

Audio:
1. PCM 2.0 Dolby Surround (from the US WS LD)
2. PCM 2.0 Dolby Surround (from the JPN LD - SF047-1572)
3. PCM 2.0 Dolby Surround (from the JPN LD - SF078-0054)
4. DTS-HD MA 4.1 (from the Shout BD)
5. DTS-HD MA 2.0 (from the Shout BD)
6. DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the Shout BD)

Sync:

Excellent looking regrade. @PDB I am buying another copy of the Streets of Fire steelbook with the 4.1 track but the shipping estimates say Nov. 4 to Nov. 20, so I wouldn't wait for that to arrive.

Hopefully this copy rips and you'll be able to add the 4.1 track!

Anytime! I'm curious if the audio experts prefer this 4.1 or the LD Big Grin

Tbh Depends of the consumer, either play the native 4.1 from your speakers from your reciver or you could play the LD Audio With Pro Logic in case if you only have 2 speakers

A better sounding matrixed mix is still much preferred to a less dynamic or filtered discrete mix.

Too be clear, I haven't heard either of them. Though I'll be sure to compare them when PDB release this

The top is the corrected version? I've seen SoF in 35mm and 70mm, and it looks more like the top. The bottom one is green and desaturated...

@Nick_M funny that, I saw SoF in 70mm in the last two months in a good condition archival print and even provided @PDB with reference photos. Personally, I was struck by the green of the print, confirmed by the photos, and think that PDB's correction nails that look.

YMMV but I find a lot of 80s films tend to have their blues run more cyan than purple, which the Shout as-is has a lot of.

Also don't see it being desaturated.
