Weird, this one is so crazy for what was once the biggest budget movie of all time!
(Worse as tech wise leaning on digital domain after T2 it went so far forward and a million times back)

I know it's incorrect (the 35mm scan) because most scans I think done by the same team have also incorrect levels of about everything.
Also I happen to have seen this one I think about a dozen times in cinemas so I know a bit how it looked.
It's obvious though even for someone unfamiliar with the film, that the many levels are completely incorrect with their scan.
Not to be too harsh, as it's better than nothing, but other scanners have given us a habit of way more transparent and professional work, even from faded prints.

It was mainly the color timing I was talking about. How do you remember it looking? I recently read this article and they talk quite a bit about how blue tinted the night scenes were theatrically and some of the steps they went through to get it that way. Also interesting how they mention that the release prints were some of the finest they ever made. The d-vhs/web-dls look a lot more natural to me, which I generally prefer, but wasn't sure how accurate that 35mm print was in terms of color since it was low fade.

Forgot I had the D+ web-dl, it's definitely got quite a bit of blue in it:

I have a PAL to NTSC DVD I made years ago because it was DVD9 and anamorphic... and the colors are definitely seriously blue.

Absolutely insane to me that this classic became obscure too! I mean, there was an anamorphic German DVD, but it seems that the presence of Arab terrorists struck a different chord after 9/11.

And this was a year after an attempt was made to bomb the WTC, and funnily enough, there was an HBO film about that attempt which also starred Art Malik as the main terrorist, Path to Paradise. It came out in 1997 and was pretty good too. HBO kinda dropped it after 9/11 as well, as it ended with Malik being flown above the WTC (To mock him for his failure), but he was pretty defiant, saying that next time they'll bring them *both* down.

I can get why that film got pulled, but True Lies is such a ball!

New source remaster I grabbed from PMTP sub on AMZN (after heads up from maksnew to check it), better encode (black bars not part on encode), less DNR and more filmic:
