And mind you all, that very house already looked quite processed as in sharpened and contrast-boosted on the relatively harmless remaster transfer which was used in the US right from the start and in Germany since the re-release:

I'd put that extra definition and sharpness more on a new scan at the time, while the old German Blu-ray probably derived from a master made for DVD, possibly at 1K in those days.

I concur, however in details things seem to be mysterious (even without Benjamin Button) and complicated* as this fabulous review, triggered by "a reader suggestion" (😋), pointed out.

* so the reviewer isn't entirely certain either what is due to a fresh scan and what due to post-production magic.

The newer transfer certainly has more "real" spatial resolution MFT-wise as well, but has also most properly additionally been "beefed up" as the image already starts to look artifical in my opinion, although not remotely as much as now the UHD BD - which at first glance doesn't look bad at all either but certainly not like a movie which was shot in 1999.
