The most egregious audio remixes
#1
Just wondering what people think are the worst examples of remixes released for films, whether it be due to altered sound effects, musical cues or just noise reduction filtering that reduces noticeable detail. I wouidn't mind compiling a list of the most offensive examples, in order to avoid or source better audio.

The Terminator, the 5.1 mix drasically has gunshots sound like silencers.

Batman 89 and Returns on UHD were the first to come to mind.

While not the worst remixes, all of Kubrick's films getting 5.1 mixes feels offensive considering he specifically targeted mono and avoided Dolby Stereo even though it was an option (EWS would probably be mono if he lived to do the sound mix). The fact that his estate allows this to happen, but we also can't see the pie fight in all it's glory is very annoying.

Also Jaws

That reminds me of the 5.1s for Halloween. They have new effects mixed in.

A Better Tomorrow.
Hands down the worst I've heard, for the same reasons above.

Most of Clint Eastwood's 60-80s output.

Oh really? I just watched them recently. What did they do to them?

The 5.1 for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly when released on Blu-ray (maybe DVD?) was really painful, with modern sounding explosions and gunfire.

Oh my god. That's terrible. I thought studios were passed doing this for the most part. I understand them doing it back in DVD days because they wanted to show off fancy surround sound, but jeez, today?
