Lil Brutto mentioned he was locked into mac so Prores is the best bet. If he was windows I would say go ahead and go AVI (Lag or magic) but mac=prores.
Its not like that's a comprise. Even if Prores is lossy and AVI is loseless that not the full story. Prores is a fantastic format. It is lossy but not by much. Its design to be lossy in order to be a fast, great capture and easily edited format. In fact I think that the vast majority of TV shows in the US use Prores in their production (culled from years of reading American Cinematographer). TV shows need the speed of Prores over the slow methodology of a Raw format. I have even read of movies using it on occasion, even though more use a Raw format since they have a relatively longer production cycle. It's a very robust, versatile professional format.
As Doombot said Prores is an evolution of the video format that Apple design for SD so Prores is very adept at doing SD resolutions as well as HD.
Doombot or I can convert the Prores to AVI if need be.
