Terminator 2: Judgement Day - 35th Anniversary Re-Release
#31
So I just watched the brand new trailer of the so-called "35th Anniversary" of T2 earlier today, and it seems that the colors in that video are supposedly naturally neutral. But fingers crossed by the way.

(Update: The trailer is obviously using clips of previous HD releases)

This trailer uses an old Blu-ray as source. Is it legit? It's also very badly edited.

Rialto Pictures and StudioCanal are behind the eight-week limited engagement, which begins May 22nd at select cinemas.

The film will be available in for different formats – the original 35mm and 70mm prints, 4K DCP, and 3D DCP digital restorations.

Hmmmmmmmm.

According to this: https://www.darkhorizons.com/terminator-...o-cinemas/

Quote:James Cameron’s “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” is returning to the big screen for the film’s 35th anniversary.

So this just a guess:

35mm and 70mm probably have the original colour timing present in 2015 Lionsgate Blu-ray and previous releases.

4K DCP and 3D DCP were made for the 2017 3D master which was ported over to 2017 4K UHD and Remastered Blu-ray.

The 2015 isn't the original at all, it's the neutral timing they made for home video like the difference between the two squeeze LDs

It's not that neutral, it's based on the HD master from 2003 (if I remember correctly). In that one, when Sarah turns around in her hospital room, the windows are not blown and the colors looks great.

If I want to have an official release of this film (which is in my top 10 favorites by the way), which is grainy and has the original theatrical colors, the best is still the 2015 US blu-ray, right?

Yes and no. It’s the least worst option, sure, but it doesn’t have the original colors, only the ones people have been accustomed to for decades, and no original audio either.

@Stamper, would you happen to have the Gaumont-Columbia-Tri Star region 2 DVD released before Studio Canal got the rights for this film? I wonder how it looked like on that transfer.

It is the best of a very bad bunch, but yes, although it doesn't have the original theatrical timing and is a technically bad transfer for a number of reasons.
