Grease LD PCM preservation
#81
Oh lol - I used Photoshop. I forget the tool name but it is specifically designed to correct images that are skewed. I know enough to be dangerous

Saw an 8mm for sale on ebay, not sure if this helps:

Still no english NTSC LD digital audio track? Why is PILF-1984 so rare?

The PAL disc has been captured. Slowing the audio down isn't going to be an issue. mj0012 hasn't posted in a long time, so I hope all is well with him.
As to why the Japanese digital sound remaster is so darn rare, it's anyone's guess. Maybe they just didn't press as many copies as they did the previous edition? The old Image promotional flyers I have are chock full of announced titles that never came out at all.

Should add that people are not aware that laserdisc titles, apart best sellers of course, had often a very limited number of copies produced... there were some edition UK titles limited to 500 pieces (declared), while most Italian titles, even if not openly stated, were printed in 500 or 1000 copies! Still, it's relatively easy to find them, so the laserdisc market is a strange beast, after all... Big Grin

It was acquired and capped awhile ago, ChrisSolo posted a synced copy back in August under Audio Project links. He also posted the Dutch LD retimed and synced to the BD.

And no, I'm not dead, just been really really busy.   Tongue

With both links it does not allow me permission to see what's there.

Hi, the Grease LD PAL-timed audio was converted to NTSC-timing? I wish we had a pure NTSC source...

Actually, there is a pure NTSC source, a mid-90s Japanese laserdisc, the aforementioned PILF-1984. BusterD did locate a copy and capture the audio. The problem is that it sounds very weak. My theory was that it was a direct port of the analog version.

The only confirmed PCM release of the later, superior remaster of the original mix from the late 80s (also heard on the hi-fi VHS reissue and 90s cable TV airings) was that PAL LD.

There are rumors of a stealth PCM reissue in the U.S., but every attempt to find a copy has either come up with a standard analog copy, or in my case (on LDDB's store, not eBay), never receiving the disc at all. I'm 99.99999999% convinced it's a myth.
