What's happening forum. DD-EX and DTS-ES decoding has been kind of a blindspot for this forum in terms of decoding. There's been various theories on how but none of them have produced good results or results at all. However I was toying around with some new tools and I found a method that works even better than the official decoders do!
Software/plugins needed:
Any NLE/DAW
REAPER
LtRtMatrix (https://github.com/MPdecode/LtRtMatrixDecoder)
1. Install LtRtMatrix as described on the GitHub
2. Open up your 5.1 track in a different editing program. Isolate the surround tracks and make them into a stereo file
3. Open REAPER and import your isolated surrounds
4. In REAPER, click the "ROUTE" button in the masterbus and set track channels to 6 and output to 1-6
5. Click the FX button on the masterbus and locate LtRtMatrix
6. Once applied, change the mode from Full Logic to LRC
7. Export your tracks by changing the channel count to 3
And boom! You now have highly accurate decoded surrounds. Through this method I was able to find that the 5.1 track on the 2013 Blu-Ray for The Terminator does indeed retain the matrixed center channel that the DVD advertised despite it not being flagged on the Blu-Ray. This also worked for me on the Theatrical DTS track for The Phantom Menace. If you need any further assistance just let me know. Happy sailings!
