[Proposal] Disney Animations Regrain
#11
Would someone be able to get me screenshots of the various home video releases of Snow White, so I can make comparisons?

Huh. Anyway, I've managed to dig up some frames from an original nitrate print. But they're all yellowish; presumably it's supposed to be like that, but I'm not entirely sure on that. What would you say?

What do you make of this - I've found a job lot of frames from a print I can buy. Would anyone here be able to tell me if these colours are accurate?

I don't think anyone could say with certainty what colors are accurate..

That true. Since the print has a DD, DTS and SDDS track it was produced sometime in the 90s into the 2000s. So far removed from the original prints that its impossible to know how accurate it is.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Still, I have a couple of nitrate frames, and Photoshop's Auto Tone removes the yellow fade quite admirably, so I have that to go on. I guess it can't hurt to compare the two.

While we're on the subject, I also found these. Apparently they're slides copied from the master print. In the light they're photographed in though, it's hard to tell what kind of colours I'm dealing with... what do you think?

Alright, I've got my copy of Snow White, and I'm ready to start, almost. Just got to determine what source I'm regrading to. ...which might take some considerable time.

Firstly, I have a small handful of frames from the George Eastman House collection. There is a chance those may be correct, but I've also applied an automatic toning process on them just to be on the safe side. Unfortunately these show severe artifacting on some frames, but they should go some way to indicate a more organic colour palette. In #4's case, I found that Auto Toning the first regraded frame garners better results.

There's also even fewer frames, even just parts of them, that I'm told come from a 35mm print. What I'm wondering is whether any home video release comes close to these kinds of colours at all. They may possibly come from one of the reissues. Whatever the case, it does look a lot more like a Technicolor film.

I'd be inclined to believe that any of these is correct.

Now... here comes problem two. The BD I have of the film doesn't contain the original monaural soundtrack. I'll need help procuring it. Presumably the LaserDisc has it? Can anyone point me to that?

New development: I've found clips of a 16mm Technicolor print. This might be a breakthrough!

If it's any good, will anyone here who speaks Italian make arrangements for me to obtain a digital copy of the print?

Wow! These videos look like a scan of a print and not filming of the projection of a print.
Am i mistaken?
Maybe that guy has scanned the whole film and we could get it?

nice find FrankT!
