[Proposal] Disney Animations Regrain
#31
I'm sure you've seen the 1937-38 IB Tech print image in that Home Theater Forum thread you linked to, the one from the party scene which looks very golden tinted. But here's more from a Technicolor history project by a professor at the University of Zurich. She took these images from a nitrate print held by the George Eastman House. They match with the image we've already seen, down to having a silver-gray single-track mono, with the waveform being dark instead of light.

Of course, this isn't the same as a projection of the print, but it's another clue.

I've already seen those as well. Seemingly, a correlation between these frames and the '57 print I'm working with is immanent.

Not too far off, although it appears that the former image is slightly darker.

Good luck with that. I'm afraid that you'll probably have to "recreate" some of those (if it's even possible) since most of them aren't available in proper HD form(or even in SD form). In fact, I don't think it'll be that difficult at some point. You'll have to recreate faithfully the different backgrounds of the opening and and credits/cards/inter titles since they're all different (from the original release, as seen on the BD, they change slightly during the title/credit change). Only the typography is the same throughout each foreign language versions (except for the animated opening book). I've been trying to recreate those for years now, but the results were seriously disastrous. So I abandoned it until I can come with better idea how to achieve this (that's for the credit & end cards only. I have no idea how to do for the animated book, unless good HD image sequence can be found.

Just that. It wouldn't be the same as working with a master.

Hello there. Any fresh news on this project ? It's been a year now since it was last heard of.

FYI, the Annivarsary Edition BD of Bambi released in June contains the original RKO logo instead of the 2006 Disney castle at the start. It looks sourced from a film print, as I see some wobble and specks, while the rest of the credits are the same digital ones as the previous release.
