Yep, that's the idea.

Well, based on that detail, I've conducted a test render.

This render is bright, and likely inappropriately so.

I think it looks great. Not sure if its authentic but it looks like it is. Are you going to add grain also?

I think it looks way too bright, but I do like the color palette...

The grain won't show properly on a crappy re-encode on a streaming site, but would be interested in seeing a sample at a proper bitrate with the real 35mm film grain added, once this is darkened just a tad bit.

Yeah, I'll turn the brightness or luma down a touch. That should sort it. In fact I might be able to regrade most of the movie with that one LUT, with exceptions for a couple of scenes. Maybe individual LUTs for day, night and indoor scenes. Would that work?

Has anyone been able to contact the holder of the print yet? What about the Laserdisc audio track?

FrankT have you checked those screenshots I had posted previously here?

i don't know how accurate they are but they seem pretty good to me.
I made a comparison with yours.

Left: yours
middle: unknown source
right: Bluray

To tell you the truth I prefer the one in the middle, even if you tone down the brightness in yours.

Yes, I've seen those shots. I made a LUT out of it, in fact - trouble is, it made the huntsman's dagger look weird.

I'll have to play about with it a bit.

Nice work! That's really cool - I have some Disney frames lying around so I'll try to get them scanned and send you the raw images. Might take a while because the scanner is at work, but should be within the next few days.

That would be lovely.

One of my contacts has a print from 1957, the first German reissue, on which the colour palette leaned toward browns. So my previous theory on deliberate yellowing may not be too far off. I'm guessing that they started to modify the colours as early as 1966.

If anybody has footage from any foreign HDTV broadcasts of Snow White, let me know, because I'm hoping to do seamless branching to bind as many foreign versions together as I can. I want to make this project stand out!
