What is "deblock and a dropout removal" and how did you discover it?

After I made the original encoding, I was forced to stop making new projects, but I didn't stop working, and continued to make a lot of tests with several techniques with other projects; I thought to test some of them with The Arrival too, and found that final result was better than previous one... that's all! I'm still curious though what "deblock and a dropout removal" exactly is.

Did you apply ""deblock and a dropout removal" already in the 25% grain sample clip?

No, I applied them in the new 10, 18 and 22 % clips... differences are barely noticeable... deblock "rounds" a bit small blocks, while the dropout removal does that, just remove little dropouts - I must admit there are not many on the movie, but they are there...

Thanks for the explanation.
But it doesn't (accidentally) change the look of the grain structure, does it?

Because the grain structure in the original BD was really reduced, even if dropout removal could lightly change the grain structure of it, the grain plate is applied after that, so basically grain will be the same at the end!

Hey! Totally missed this thread!

I agree that the "original" 25% grain looks great, very natural. Smile

Encoding process finally finished - after just a bit over two days... tomorrow I'll try to make the authoring, as covers and subs are ready!

OK, today I made the intro and the animated menu clip; then I tried to author the project with MultiAVCHD three times, but it never worked... don't know why, because settings are the same of the latest project (Supernova)... in the next days I'll be away from home, so I'll try to solve the problem next week... very angry, because now everything is ready but the authoring software! Sad
