Stamper, what "same" DVD are you talking about? Can you show me a picture of its cover. I know about the original Columbia Tristar, the Ultimate Edition, the Édition Finale, and I always assumed the others that came after were only repackaged of the same discs from the Édition Finale which was the 1st time T2 had a 5.1 mix French dub, which was awful by the way.

Wow things are really moving now. The thread on originaltrilogy has nothing on this!
Is borisanddoris a member here? He saw a private screening of the 70mm 6-track mag. His input would be most valuable.

It's that one http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/f36236-terminator-2.html issued April 1st 2008 (no joke) but it's DD and pal speeded up so no edge on the NTSC early release.
The double Blu-ray is here http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/f150619-terminator-2.html issued september 23rd 2008
The HD-DVD here http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/f150031-terminator-2.html was in advance of this issued may 21, 2007

I'm guessing due to the complex work of putting out a Blu-ray, rights to pay etc, they couldn't release them all at the same time, so this could account for the months difference between the releases. I'll know tomorrow or in a few days if the Blu indeed has the same mix. Mr Brown should check his HD-DVD, it's probably also the mix.

Beber if the french version (which I never listened to) is a remix made in the 00's, why is the mix similar to the CDS? That's really weird.

Sooo.. the TC on HD-DVD has the percussion... After checking a source without the said percussion.. they are quite well to notice. And I would say, that the french Track even is more impressive, than the english... But again, my setup on the PC is far from perfect, and my ears are not that fine tuned. Smile

OK, so, Stamper, that DVD you're talking about is the exact same as the theatrical disc from the Ultimate Edition I have ever since 2001. It even still has the French in 2.0 whereas the Edition Finale released in between had a 5.1 remix. I'm sure that your menus have that metal tabs look that say "T2/Film/Chapitres/Versions" and that in "Versions", the 2 audio tracks are graphically presented with dots, each dot being a channel, so 5.1 and 2.0. Go figure why they put out an early 2000's disc in 2008 when in 2003 the Edition Finale had a 5.1 French dub marketing argument in its favor...
So you actually haven't found out anything new about the DVD. All that, I already mentionned a few pages ago about the theatrical cut Ultimate French edition. Initially, I thought you had discovered that the SE mix on a French DVD was a mixed bag of the CDS + newly mixed extended scenes merged into it. That'd have been cool. So no news there.
Let's hope that the Blu-ray 2-disc set will indeed have the CDS mix on its theatrical disc in glorious DTS HDMA 5.1.

I don't follow. When you say French version, you mean the French dub? Which one? The 2.0 we both have on Ultimate and 2008 editions? Or the 5.1 Edition Finale remix? Or even the current 5.1 DTS HDHR on the Skynet Edition or the DTS HDMA on the new release? I wouldn't say it's similar to the CDS since the spacialization is not the same. However they all do have the percussion rhythm 2mn in the future war sequence. I guess they kept the elements they needed for the 2003 remix and used them as basis to redo a better job, 'cause the 2003 remix is a real pain. It's so bass heavy it gives headaches. Now I'll say something in French that I don't know how I could say in English : c'est une bouillie sonore indigeste qui fait un max de zèle dans l’esbroufe.

...

Even if the BD does not have.. the HD-DVD seems to have.. at least the percussion at the beginning is in.

Any hints, how to rip that track from the HD-DVD?
EAC3TO as *.dtshd track? or some different advice?

Nope it's not the same menu as the Ultimate Edition you describe. It's different.

I was talking about french 5.1 dub. It appeared in the early 00's? Funny it would be based on the CDS. I just listened to it on the new disc when T cocks his rifle in the mall corridor, the cocking sound is 100% front there's nothing in the rears. So the french 5.1 is based on the CDS or is very close that's a whole mix match or micmac lol. However it has zero bass.

Not the same menu, OK. And yet they went back to the 2.0 French dub. Maybe 'cause I'm not the only one that felt it was unlistenable, if that's a word.

Regarding the French 5.1 you're talking about, what about the music when the T1000 enters the corridor following John. The suspenseful cue "bang, bang, zing" (starts at 26'55") that's repeated does echo in the rear channels in the English CDS mix, while it sticks to the front in the remixes. I seem to remember, that doesn't sound like that on the French 5.1. Same with the T800 joining the chase after he shoots at a grid to go through. The music echoes even more noticeably in the rear channels in CDS, when the T800 overlooks the truck before he twirls his shotgun and fires at the truck (starts at about 31'28"). Not so much in the remixes. In the CDS mix, you can hear a very distinct channel separation in these scenes musicwise, if that also is a word.

Sure, and that certainly is encouraging. However, just like you, I'm clueless about ripping HD DVD's, not to mention how to extract anything from them. So a Blu-ray released by the same company a few months later would be a lot easier.
