Thanks for doing this for Heat. I love this film. Do you know already what will be the delivery format? Will it be something that I can put on a BD-25 to watch on a Blu-Ray player? Or even 50, considering the length of this movie.

No because the blu ray is cut during the detritus scene.

The "detritus" line isn't just an audio change. They removed the shot of the actress speaking the line entirely and added a reaction shot of Pacino over the following line to hide the edit.

The "ferocious" line is purely an audio change.

So syncing the Italian tracks was odd, there was the usual extra frames here and there which the other DVDs have, but during the scene with the gang leaving the restaurant there were some large differences. The Italian version uses a shot of neon Chinese characters early than the other versions, plus every frame is duplicated so it runs twice as long. Then it duplicates an overhead shot. Then when Val Kilmer/Ashley Judd walk out the Italian version duplicates 20 frames again. Then it goes back to normal, with the same extra frames the other versions have. Anyway it's synced now.

Oh, wow. The Italian DVD might be theatrical accurate colorwise. That's an interesting find. I'd like to see what's what.

When I have some freetime I'll send the screenshots to Caps-a-holic, since they only have Blu-Ray releases to compare.

Do you think they modified that scene to make the (longer) audio fit a missing part? They have theatrical audio because it was them who distributed it in Italian cinemas, but the video material for the DVD usually originates from America. So they might have had to do some tweaks to match the audio from the theatrical versoin with the video from a slightly modified home video version

It's possible sure, although I've synced a lot of non English audio tracks for previous projects and I've never come across one where the video has been altered to fit the dub, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen for this.

It would be a first for me too. Usually the chop the dub.

More screenshots of the Italian DVD would be great if you have the time.
