The David Fincher Project: Seven/Fight Club
#1
I cancelled this for the time being since the 4K UHD of Seven was just announced.

Project Info:
This is a posting for a future project I'm working on in the background while proceeding with my HDTV/Web-DL project.

Having finished a Panic Room project, I had a desire to work on some other Fincher projects and resurrected two old projects that I never finished. Seven I never posted here. Fight Club was part of my open matte project

https://fanrestore.com/thread-2844.html?...fight+club

for which I lost most of the data in a HDD crash. This is an attempt to bring back at least the OAR part.

I'm hoping at some point I can also resurrect my Zodiac theatrical cut project also

but we shall see.

Video:
This project uses the old Seven transfer as seen in the New Line DVD. The source is the Canadian open matte BD. I tend not to use open matte transfers for recreating OAR projects as they normally are cropped on the sides. In this case I found the Canadian transfer to have more info on the side than the DVD.

So I first IVTC's the BD's 1080i transfer into 1080p. I then cleaned-up compression and some other issues and then upscaled the project to 4K. I lined this upscaled video with the New Line DVD and roughly cropped the OM transfer to match the DVD's 2.39 transfer. Finally I synced this to the timing of the OAR US BD by adding one extra frame.

Since this master is very bright especially compared to the BD, I adjusted the black level and added some contrast. Not as much as the BD but hopefully more pleasing.

Audio:
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the Cinema DTS discs)
PCM 2.0 Dolby Surround (from the CE LD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 (from the CE DVD)
Dolby Digital 5.1 (from the CE DVD)
DTS-HD MA 7.1 (from the US BD)
PCM 2.0 Commentary (from the CE LD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#1 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#2 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#3 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#4 (from the US BD)

Maybe
1. DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the CAN BD)
2. Dolby Digital 2.0 (from the French DVD)

Sync:
The US BD with one frame duplicated

Video:
This project uses the old Fight Club transfer as seen in the Fox DVD and found on the original German BD. First step for this project was to remove dirt using auto dirt removal tools. Next, I cleaned-up compression and then upscaled the project to 4K. Finally, I synced this to the timing of the US BD.

Audio:
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the Cinema DTS discs)
PCM 2.0 Dolby Surround (from the JPN LD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 (from the CE DVD)
Dolby Digital 5.1 EX (from the CE DVD)
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#1 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#2 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#3 (from the US BD)
Dolby Digital 2.0 Commentary#4 (from the US BD)

Maybe
1. DTS 5.1 (from the GER BD)

Sync:
The US BD

Video:
This project uses the Web-DL and HDTV Theatrical cut transfer of Zodiac. It will be a completion of this project, originally from here:

https://fanrestore.com/thread-2922.html

I cleaned-up compression and then upscaled the project to 4K.

Audio:
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (from the Cinema DTS discs)
Dolby Digital 5.1 (from the TC DVD)
Dolby Digital+ 5.1 (from the Web-DL)

Sync:
Web-DL

Regarding Seven.1995, there is a web dl amazon remastered version, the quality is very good there and an Open Matte version, the content is a little more than that of the Canadian OM disc

Thanks for posting that info maksnew. I assume by remastered it’s the same transfer as the current Blu-ray?

Is the open matte more on the sides?

Love Fincher. Very excited to revisit these titles with your inverse CRT LUT! Thanks @PDB

Speaking of 90s films, I wonder how Heat would react to one of your LUTS Wink

Now I looked in more detail and it turned out that I was mistaken, WEB DL was not from Amazon but from Russian services, but I have a hybrid based on WEB, HDTV and the BD of the new transfer was laid on top, which was the same for everyone, HDTV was of very high quality but with logo, WEB was used to hide the logo.
If it's suitable, then I will send a hybrid, it is fully synchronized with the BD

I whipped these pictures together quickly so people could see the difference between the original and the Inverse CRT. This is pre-video processing, so no upscaling, compression fixes, no dirt removal, etc. Just color work.

Yeah I'm trying to think of some projects I can do with this LUT, much like the CRT LUT.

Which version of Heat are you thinking about TAF? BD or UHD?

Alleycat's Heat looks pretty great not sure I can do better then that.

I always willing to look at any video file if its better then what I have. Thanks maksnew.

These seem great, very interested!
Whats the likelihood I could get a version of each w/ the treatments, color changes and upscaling but not cropped from the OM? (I'd like your special versions in open-matte). If its way too hard, np.
