Just invert and mix. If it comes out flat then it's mono.

it's the same thing but simpler - i tried the invert and mix method at first and couldn't get it right

Regarding english subtitles, I've read on the Blu-ray forums that the eng subs for the Cantonese audio on the German mediabook release were new to that release and are the best commercially available. Curious if anyone knows how the HKR subs used here compare to those in terms of quality/accuracy. Thanks!

I've been in contact with the guy who did the subs for HKR. He's a native Cantonese-speaker. Very reliable. But I am curious about those German blu-ray subs!

Apparently, the German Blu-ray has the Mandarin version of the "drunken singing scene" that was also seen on the Tharkal DVD as a bonus.

But I'm not sure if it's a different transfer, or still cropped to 1.85:1.

There are three versions on the blu.

Original (102mins)
International (100mins)
? (101mins)

The english and cantonese audio tracks are coming in two versions each: "original" and "remastered". The first ones are "original" and the second ones "remastered".
